looking for some honest reviews on Pole Position 1 vs. Pole Position 2.

I have read somewhere people who have played both say PP1 is still better than PP2 even with the extra tracks to run....what do you guys think...I love my PP1 but am starting to think a few tracks to run on would be more fun? I have not played a PP2 or even seen one in person, thinking about finding a PP2 to drag home.

Experts and hardcore gamers love PP1. Harder game. Better for record attempts.

Casual gamers prefer the multiple tracks available on PP2.

Ihad both boards and sold the pp2 due to the fact that the pp1 had more classic nostalgic sounds and game play.

the pp1 track is in pp2 but it still wasn't the same for me.

hard to argue with extra tracks, but pp1 was the right choice for me.

im a lazy game player and also like variety, so pp2 has more appeal to me.

the same reason why i own a race drivin and not just a hard drivin. The 2nd in series of atari games is usually better it seems :D

Interesting so you think if you drive the Fuji course on PP2 it is easier than PP1??

I notice on PP1 from a cold start of the machine I can make some good runs, if I get on a roll it becomes more diffacult to huste around the track with good times with more blockers and cars turning into you trying to crash you.

I've been told by one of the best PP players that PP2 Fuji track is way too easy compared to the original.

ok, thats what I am looking for, I thought I read something like that here but could not find the thread

what do you guys know about the "Final Lap" and "Final lap 2" ? fun...boring/easy?

*cough* Namco *cough*

PP1 is harder and more challenging but PP2 has more tracks and there is something about Seaside that is endearing. I personally would love either one of them. Although why Namco decided to be the only company to use the Z8000 CPU on only twoish games is beyond me.

I've played Final Lap 1. My god, did that game suck.

ok..without getting to new of a game..I was hot for a outrun turbo but am now kinda on the fence about it...as a second driving game, what would you guys suggest??

You mean if you got one of the PP games first? I'd go with a game like Championship Sprint, Off-road, Super Sprint, Badlands, etc. Something that more than one person can hop up to and play together for fun.

If that's not your thing, Outrun or Hang-on are two other hardcore classic driver/racer games available that kick ass.

IMO, PPII is the better game. And not just because the extra tracks, but also the car is faster. But I do agree that the sounds are better in PPI.
To each their own..

Truth be told, since I aquired Rush The Rock(s), my PP cab doesn't get much action...

You didn't ask, but since we're making decisions for yah: I think the consensus here is Outrun > Turbo Outrun. It's difficult to argue that.

I'm more a PP1 man, but that's because I A) don't own a PP2 and B) had significant exposure to 1 as a kid...I can't remember PP2 ever having the same impact.

Also, someone rip/torrent/youtube the Pole Position 2 special episode of Starcade while we are on the subject.

P.S. Pole Position can be a difficult SOB to keep running. Something to keep in mind.

I have a PP1 its my core game staying forever...I want a couple more driving games, another fast game kinda like PP that's why I was on a OutRun game, and for some crazy reason I am drawn to the 18 wheeler driving game never played it, I have watched it on youtube and know a guy that played it allot and really had fun with it and we have similar likes with games, looks like a fun one.

I here ya on keeping a PP going, I have read some of the threads on here, mine looks like it has some of the grounding done otherwise a well used and abused piece, screen is awsome and it plays perfect...knock on wood..., so trip a credit and hit it....I think I am in good company here to keep these units rolling.

My 5yr old and I have this debate all the time. I am an old schooler who played PP1 in the wild BITD so that's the one to play in my book. But she likes PP2 bc more tracks, the car sounds cooler, and when you wreck parts fly everywhere. But for a VG like me, there is no replacement for PP1. I literally play it every day.

I find the SFX in PPII obnoxious and feel more nostalgia for the original. That being said PPII has a lot more variety and FEELS like it has more "speed," though I find it a lot easier.

I owned both... I sold my Pole Position PCB. Whoever said PP1 was HARDER than PP2 is nuts... I don't care who it is. PP1 is slower = easier. PP1 does provide more nostalgia as the sounds ARE better... but PP2 is the better game IMHO. Lets forget FUJI for a minute... regardless if it's easier or harder...

2 of the other 3 tracks are have much much more challenge than Fuji and the Test track is great for kids (and adults) to feel like they can play the game good.

Bottom line from my perspective... PP2 is easily twice the game that PP1 is... hence the reason I sold my PP1 PCB... it was never in the cab... because I'd swap... play for an hour and long for VARIETY.

Man, we all know why you like PP2 better: it's gotta ferris wheel. See how much better it feels when you're honest? :p
