Any game that encourages you to use your phone while driving is a danger to EVERYONE.
I read where a marine ran in to a tree playing the game. Again... if ONE PERSON DIES because of a game it's not worth it. Nintendo should be held responsible IMHO. The game should SHUT OFF if the phone being used is going faster than 5 MPH for example.

The game doesn't shut off if you're going faster because of passengers (people driving their kids for instance) and tracking Pokemon (so passengers can tell the driver they're going in the right direction to find a rare Pokemon) but it does keep you from gaining KM towards hatching eggs above 12mph (to keep drivers from abusing it but letting bikers gain from it).

In the end individual stupidity has nothing to do with a game or a developer, it's with the individual. The game tells you every time it loads to play it safely and pay attention, and distance based features are locked down above 12mph.

Deaths and injury from the game aren't FROM the game, it's because of idiots. The same people who text while they're driving. It's popular with everyone, including idiots, so you see some people being idiots and getting hurt while playing it. There's nothing innately dangerous with it...

Didn't see this post until it was quoted... but this is an absolutely NUTTY way to look at the world.

I'm pretty sure one person has died doing literally just about anything... Cooking, swimming, driving, walking, eating, sleeping, breathing...

Nintendo isn't even the company who made the game and you're demanding they be held responsible for someone's own stupidity just because they were playing a game that Nintendo didn't even make?

Do you even read what you write? lol

Are you aware of the phrase "Negligence Per Se?"

He's a kid. Give `em a pass...

lol... I mean I'm 32 but thanks, I guess. Nice to be considered young.

Yeah I've heard of it, but lets be honest here... How is Niantic (not Nintendo) an example of negligence per se? There is nothing inherently wrong with the app. You absolutely do not need to be looking at the screen while you're moving in order to play the game. Whenever you are within range of a Pokestop or a Pokemon appears, the game gives an audible alert and also vibrates your phone.

You can easily walk down the sidewalk, phone in hand... not looking at the screen, and then when you feel it vibrate, you can stop, look at the phone, play the game for a moment, then return to walking while not looking at the screen.

People misusing the game or being stupid while playing it does not fall under negligence per se.

Negligence per se implies the company did something negligent on their part. Not complying to rules/codes, etc. Niantic isn't doing anything wrong. Nobody complained about Ingress which is literally the same game by the same company. They only complain because they are tired of hearing about Pokemon Go and want Nintendo (I repeat, Nintendo did not make this game) to be punished for it.

I like how this thread that started out innocently enough with a pic of a Pokémon on someone's sideart and turned into...

My initial reaction when I heard about the game was that it was stupid. After a couple of weeks, I realized that this opinion really made no sense since I had never seen or played the game. I really had no idea what pokemon were either. I had heard of them, but never played any of the games or watched the shows. I decided I should try it before forming an opinion about it.

The first time I tried it, it crashed when I caught the first pokemon. I was like, yep, it is stupid. Then about a week later, I opened it as a joke to piss off one of the other engineers (who had likewise decided it was terrible without trying it). His reaction was hilarious. "Not you too! Ben was playing that stupid shit at the airport last week." Ben is our engineering manager. We had both messed with it enough to get to level 3.

Since then I have played a little bit more to get to level 5, so I can see what the gyms are. I am hoping that it is more like a game. I may go find one at lunch to see what it does.

Since I have played it a little, I notice way more people playing than I did before I played. They all seem to be having fun. I don't know if I would say it is fun, but I have been looking for an excuse to walk more, and this may help with that a little.

As was mentioned previously, the people with their heads buried in their phone while walking just don't really know what they are doing. It alerts you when something happens.

I think we (specifically those of us in our 40s who think we know what people should be doing with their time) tend form harsh opinions all the time based little or no facts. I did the same thing with Apple stuff until last year. I absolutely hated everything the company put out. I just didn't have a valid reason to. The only product of theirs that I had ever used was an Apple IIe 30 years ago, and I loved it. I thought the same thing that I see in this thread. Apple stuff is only for the sheep of the world. Well, I actually tried it (first an iPad), and I liked it. I now use apple stuff for phone, tablet, computer, and TV, and after close to a year, they have been my favorite tech devices that I have owned.

It is way more fun to try stuff than just assume that it is stupid. Even if it is stupid, it might be enjoyable. I find life to be more enjoyable in general when I try something before forming a negative opinion of it.

I did play it. And it's fucking stupid. And now, apparently, it's also broken and even more stupid (according to the article I posted above.)

GO AWAY, RETARDED GAME, GO AWAY

nope its not "broken" and in fact they just did an update so it works better, why do you want it to go away, has it hurt you? anyways we was strolling/pokemon hunting tonight in our neighborhood when we got to a pokestop that was at a church and this is what was on their marquee.

I'm so angry right now !!!!!!!! 😡😡😡
I had to leave the house pick up a few things. I run my errand and I go back to my house. There are 4 police cars and 6 police officers in my home. The front door had been knocked off the hinges, stuff everywhere, and apparently they were looking for something. So I'm stuck outside with this police officer and they are inside searching through everything, even our laundry. They checked inside my closets under my mattress. They tore my things apart. So, as you can imagine, I'm getting upset, and I'm trying figure out what's going on.

I asked if they had a search warrant, and if I could see it. The cop in my bedroom yells, "Where did you hide it at? We know it's here! We are searching." Then I yell back, "If I had an idea of what you're looking for sir, maybe I could help!" He shoots me the "you wanna go to jail?" so I shut up and watch one of the other police officers look down at his phone. Then he shouts, "Guys Stop! Hold on. We're in the wrong house! The Pokémon is next door!"

If you fell for this, like I did, feel free to copy and paste. Don't take life too seriously, and enjoy your day!
