I loved reading the article in the news about the 2 guys who fell off a cliff while playing Pokemon Go.

:) Makes me smile every time I think about it...

LOS ANGELES -- Two men suffered moderate injuries when they tumbled off a seaside cliff north of San Diego while reportedly playing Pokemon Go, fire officials said Thursday.

The pair fell after climbing a fence and disregarding warning signs in order to get on the bluff in Encinitas, Calif., said Fire Marshal Anita Pupping.

One of the men told sheriffs' deputies that he and his friend were playing the smartphone augmented-reality game Pokemon Go when they fell over the cliff's edge, according to the San Diego Union Tribune. Pupping said she could not confirm the report. The names of the victims were not released.

Pupping says one of the men tumbled about 50 feet. His companion fell about 80 to 90 feet, landing on the beach at 1 p.m. Wednesday. "The fire department had to extricate them with ropes and harnesses and such," said Pupping.

Pokemon Go has become a summer phenomenon, a game played on smartphones in which characters are projected on the screen amid the player's actual surroundings. The goal of the game is to capture the animated figures. Unlike past app-based games, Pokemon Go is being credited with coaxing kids and adults to exercise by having to walk to play. But it also has landed players in hot water.

One player reportedly found a body while playing in Wyoming, some have been robbed and other players have become involved in traffic accidents, according to news reports.

In Encinitas, those who try to play on the cliffs are asking for trouble.

"We'd like people to stay clear of all the bluffs, overhangs and cliffs," said Pupping, though she was not able to confirm if the two men were indeed playing Pokemon Go at the time of their fall.

Both men were taken to the Scripps La Jolla Trauma Center for treatment.

I heard about that. It's 3am here and I just looked out my window and saw two people walking by playing it. Lol

All of my cousins on both sides are playing it, my aunts and uncles (in their 40's and 50's) are playing it, my girlfriend is playing it, and even my mom is playing it. Finally got it yesterday and it just crashes on me. :(

I don't know the last time a fad was this big (if there was one) and between so many different age groups, this is insane, like nothing ever before. Not surprised, with smartphone ownership being extremely diverse.

anyone who makes fun of people for playing this game is pathetic and to wish harm on someone shows how much so.

and no i do not play the game or even know much about it.

I'm not sure how this game works, can two people compete for the same creature? Two kids were shot at in their car while playing this in front of someones house. Words were exchanged like, did you catch him, before the homeowner shot up the car. I'm wondering if the kids captured it first and the homeowner went off.

Two people can catch the same one... Yes. There's no real way to screw other people over so this incident sounds bogus. In fact, usually when someone finds a good Pokemon, they will tell everyone around them where it was so they can go catch it too.

Agreed. Let people enjoy what they want to enjoy. It's a game... let people have fun. All I've seen from this game was positive things. A huge increase in people getting out and talking to one another when otherwise they would be at home. A huge plus for businesses in my area because they are getting crazy tons of business even up until closing time because of all the people out. I see a lot of people just coming together to help each other out and make friends. It's been pretty amazing from what I've witnessed firsthand.

Of course the media is going to jump at ANY little possible chance that the game is causing harm or danger or whatever because it's news. But really, if it wasn't this game, it would be some other reason why these two idiots were jumping over a fence labeled with warnings, etc... Except it wouldn't make the news because it's not about some huge phenomenon going on right now. "Two men jumped fence and fell off a cliff because they were slightly intoxicated and someone dared them" does not make for a gripping news headline. The media just wants to talk about Pokemon Go negatively because it gets attention. They also mention positive stuff about it but positive news rarely gets anywhere near the views as negative.

well said, I'll start by saying that me and my family play and absolutely love it! I'll also say that we probably would not be playing like we are if we still lived in our old neighborhood because our old neighborhood was pretty dangerous and had a high crime rate but we've moved to an area that harbors more affluent neighbors(job related).

with that being said my son was pretty deep into pokemon when he was a kid and the craze was hot back then with cartoons, trading cards, movies, figures etc and since he was a kid that meant I had to buy all the merch, take him to the movies, play the card game and such. All these years later here we are catching pokemon in real time with our devices and trying to evolve them and make them more powerful than the others and rule the gym that's right next door at the boy scouts LOL. It's a game folks and a game that gets people out of their house and off their asses to actually move and socialize, Hmmm kinda like when I was a kid back in the '80's at the local arcade where news reports said the bad elements hung out and crimes were committed :).

I read it here, http://www.usatoday.com/story/tech/...on-trainers-shot-palm-coast-florida/87207116/

Right now the story is a he said she said kind of thing. I was just curious about the game dynamics and if that had anything to do with it. Knowing how that works now, I guess it can be chalked up as just another day in FL.

My cousins little girl was trying to show me how this game works yesterday but she couldn't log on. I hear its a popular game with millions of downloads and the servers are probably bogged down. She was excited to show me and her dad said it gets her outside. Sounds like Nintendo hit one out of the park.

I don't make fun of people for it and I don't wish them harm... But if people are dumb enough to play near a cliff or trespass then I don't mind seeing the gene pool cleansed a little...

The gameplay is meh. It's mostly repetitive, addictive and halfa**ed. Gameplay mechanics could of had a little bit more depth added to it. It makes sense they went with Freemium, get it into the most hands as possible.

The concept was novel and was bound to happen. I can appreciate that the game getting people out of the house to explore. But, outside of overcrowded parks, it doesn't reward you enough for exploring clever public places off a street. Ironic, because playing this game on the road or near heavy traffic is the worst possible thing to do on your phone, but the best way to catch them all.

The game needed to have more intelligent locations for pokemon to appear. Having them show up on others property and placing gyms in private locations is just stupid. Could of taken more time to do research. That's shame on the developers, for being too lazy on such a massive game map.

Hope to see other developers do something better with the concept.

I don't think it's fair to call it a fad. Pokemon has been around for 20 years. When the PS4 came out, it wasn't a fad. It was another popular product from a trusted line.
