Recently purchased Point Blank 3 dedicated, everything is in good shape on the machine. (It Has the mirrored monitor setup) When I go to calibrate the Namco Blowback guns, they shoot the exact center of the target no matter where I am aiming, even off screen. Could the optical sensors both be bad (same issues with p1 and p2)? Any ideas on where to start to look? All of the connections are plugged in correctly.

Thanks!

In my (admitedly limited) experience, gun problems are often really monitor problems.

Don't know anything about PB3, but the following apply generally go optical gun games:

-clean the monitor face, clean the mirror (if there is one), clean the bezel/glass, clean the plastic lens in the front of the gun (take the gun apart and clean both sides if you can)

-make sure the monitor is well adjusted; purity, convergence, brightness/contract (usually brighter is better for the guns, but not so bright you get any "bleeding"). Make sure white is WHITE; not visably tinted a color.

-check/adjust your game power supply (+5V)

-try testing in a darkened area; reflections and other surrounding lights may be messing with the sensors.

-look for any diagnostic mode adjustments (i.e. "flash brightness", etc.)

I get some movement on the guns now, the farther I pull back away from the game, the more it stutters around. Optical sensors in the guns maybe?

Did you take the gun apart to clean it proper? While you're at it you could check the optos for damage or try resoldering the joints. Never owned one, but the recoil feature has to be murder on the internals. And I could easily see the opto getting bent out of whack by kids slamming the gun back in its holster.

Congrats btw, those Namco dedicated cabs for the PB games are sweet.

Going to do that tonight. Guns look worn, but what Namco guns don't on a used machine. This is my "Holy Grail" machine, very excited to have a dedicated with all of the art intact. Luckily the sensors on Suzo Happ are around $30 ea.

Always regretted not getting one when I had the chance. Think it was a GunBullet or GunBarl cab though.

I might show preference to a Ninja Assault cab though. Same cab with a pedal for games that use it. Art isn't nearly as great, but I know I'd end up buying TC 1 and 2 boards for it eventually and want the pedal.

I've looked everywhere and people have been selling PB 1 or 2 non dedicated orignals for around $1000 without recoil guns. Got mine for half of that, complete. Not too worried about spending around $100 in parts to get it A+. Also got an Ivan Stewart's Offroad (3 Player), NBA Jam TE, UMK3 and a MS Pac, all in one purchase!

Didn't check that. So the curved side faces the screen, or the trigger?

Think he meant screen, yeah. That way the optic view is widened by the curvature of the lens.

Did you ever fix this issue? My Point Blank 2 does the same...I even bought another PB2 board & does the same exact thing...So its either the monitor or the gun...
