Okay, after seeing that DIY minicade and finding a reasonable price on a multigame plug and play, I want to build one myself. I have the Arcade Gold Pac-Man, and since I don't particularly like the dome casing/control layout, I'm going to remove the casing and mount it how I want. One problem. The joystick ball is preventing me from removing the joystick assembly. It looks like the ball is in two pieces, is there a way I can get it out without destroying the casing?

Why bother trying to mount it? Why not just hotwire the little bastard to some real controls into a real control panel?

Here's a picture of my daughter's mini arcade cab I built her. It houses a plug and play Spongebob Squarepants game. This cab stands 40" high, which is probably much taller than the mini you're planning on building.

You get the point though, yes? By hotwiring the board from it, you'll be able to place buttons and the joystick wherever you like. You'll also get that more familiar "clicking" sound made by a real microswitch instead of the rubber padded copper spots.

Are you trying to preserve the casing? Why not just bust the sucker open? Take a dremel to it or something to avoid damaging the internals.

Yeah, I'll probably just hack it open. I like joystick, just not the layout.

How should I power both a screen and the plug n play?

Plug and play runs on 4 batteries. If that takes up too much space, I believe you can cut the two wires and splice them into a 6V power adapter.

easiest solution would be finding a camping crt tv and cracking it open/ mounting in cab. I've seen 9" screens out there. Cheap. CL has em for like $10. Simply plug the tv, marquee light?, and power adapter for the game into a triple plugin cord.

Big bump, but I finally am trying to get started with this again. I want it to be in the shape of a Pac-Man cab, anyone have the diagrams that I could trace onto wood and assemble?

What wood is the best for this?
