pls help- I've reached a Crossroads with my (g)arcade..

Well, the thing I knew would happen 'one day' has happened- my (g)arcade has become more 'arcade' than 'garage'. I still have 2 cabinets up on the wall holding car parts, my tools are still in the room, and some other misc crap. For this room to complete its transformation into a full ARCADE, these things will have to be removed. Prob is, I still use the tools that are in there for oil changes, various car repairs, etc etc.

It didn't used to matter to me when there were only a few games in there, but now that the room is rully lined with games, I think I have to move the tools and related crap out.

Is anyone else who has a (g)arcade running into this predicament as well? Did you end up doing a full conversion over to 'arcade' and take out everything non-game related?

It's times like this when I really wish I could afford a bigger home. :(

Lol...try living in 896 sq ft with four people and arcade games. :p

I would like to make the swap, but I don't have anywhere else to put up a workshop. I a;ready have to wheel the tablesaw out in the driveway to use it. I really need more space.

My garage isn't near full of games, but I now have 8 cabinets around two of the four edges. It slowly went from a two car garage with plenty of storage, to now a 1 car garage with some storage and part Garcade.

My solution was two-fold:

1. I put a storage shed in my backyard to move out some of my tools and other items

2. I installed Hyloft Ceiling Mounted Storage shelves from Home Depot. I have 8 of these sets of shelves that hang from the ceiling. It creates a ton of storage out of otherwise wasted space. This allowed me to move many things I previously stored on the shelves around the edge of the garage:

I am right there. I have 6 games in my garage right now and can only fit in one car comfortably. My wife is NOT happy.
We are thinking of getting a Mini Van with baby #2, so some of these games will have to go to storage.
Plus the kicker is that I am getting 3 more cabs this week. SOOOOOOO, 9 games in one garage.... starting to get a bit tight.

This is one of the main reasons why I've put my arcade collecting on hold. I'll resume it eventually, but not until I move into a place with more space. I don't have a lot of room for the games I have. Good thing I have a decent sized portable building on my property, otherwise I'd be screwed.

hmm...portable building. :)

I actually tossed around the idea of having some local guys here in the Twin Cities area find a place to rent (CHEAP!) where we could all stash our games. Then we could go play whenever.
I just hate having to put them in storage for so long.
But the wife is getting antsy and is going to want the garage back soon (baby 2 on the way). I hear the words "mini van" creeping into our conversations....

while my garage is more arcade storage than set to play I still do struggle with the idea that if it ever does become a dedicated play space I would like to hide the tools. I say hide because I know I have no other place to put them. Only two ideas I've come up with are 1) get a shed in the backyard so the tools can be completely out of the garage 2) build a wall in the garage to create a small room that would house the tools. That way the tools have space and the rest looks like a dedicated arcade.
