Ok... the local shop has 2 darknesses of GRAY plexi and 3 darkness levels of BRONZE plexi. I need a replacement for my Showcase cabinet.

Do I go with lighter gray or darker gray? I am guessing the bronze isn't the way to go?

I have to order it without seeing it.

i order my replacement plexi from a local shop called SOROC plastics in burton mi, they have 3 levels of gray and i used the medium for both my tron and mame...

they are cheap cheap cheap, i have spent less than 20 total for both projects and they did the cuts for me.

You wouldn't happen to know the name of the gray...or the specs? The guy on the phone wasn't the most helpful.

sorry, since im local i went back with them and looked at the different shades myself. i would be more than happy to take some pictures tonight when i get home of the plexi or i can go in on monday and take a picture of the shades side by side if you want.

Damn. That was a steal for sure.

ya its very affordable, and they are great to deal with. the only downside is this is such a small part of their business it is almost a afterthought. but on a one to one basis they are great to deal with but when it comes to specs and things... ya it is just different shades of gray.

also do not use bronze tinted plexi, looks like crap....

Chances are they have to order a full sheet and break it down for you and keep the scraps, so I understand their resistance to being useful. Find a different shop with material in stock, or ask them what brand and actual material it is; then you can check manufacturers website.

When you ask for "plexiglass" you may end up with ... extruded acrylic, cast acrylic, lexan, plexiglass brand acrylic... Each brand and material has different optical clarity, strength, and resistance to scratching. I bought "smoked cell cast acrylic" for a couple games, otherwise I build custom fish tanks from cc acrylic.

the reason i went with medium is i wanted it dark enough to hide the bezel and monitor. i wanted it to look like the image was floating.... so if you dont want that look go lite. i will take pictures of my plexi and will post it here sometime tonight.

I have 2 Dynamo Showcase cabinets and both have standard clear plexi. Not sure if you knew.

Also if the previous poster used shade 2 for tron, which is very dark NOS, you may want to go with the first shade of grey.

And now jr Pac will be in his locked bedroom trying to google 50 shades of grey.

wow, that's a really dark "medium". I just picked up a medium smoked today and it's much lighter. Sweet.
