Please take the Animated Avatar survey.

Yes it is a running total.

If you knew you were literally donating 10 this week and 10 next week I'd ask that instead you would do one donation of 20. Less paypal fees plus also at this time tracking it all is it is currently a very manual process,

Understood.

Can we not save you fees by sending as a gift payment?

From what I understand the donations aren't "to buy" animated avatar capability. The contributers were the test group. Right?

We don't have any "levels" of members except mods. We're donating to help keep this going.

I knew I was in the minority on not liking animated avatars. :)

Does anybody know how to turn them off in Chrome? I can just hit ESC in IE, but I haven't figured out a way to do it using Chrome.

I used to be big on animated avatars, since I make them. But most often I don't use them since I switched to a more "brand awareness" with all of my accounts all using the same picture. And since some places do not allow animation, I just stick with the static one.

It's official now. I knew the $2 joining fee would lead to other things. Now, it's money for animated avatars.

What's next? $500 to be a mod?

I know...you could charge a dollar to post in the "rep" thread.

Edit: I'd owe you a lot of money :D

WTF

Perhaps .25 per karma point. Get a full row of karmas for $2000 or so...

Wanna be a mod? $500? not even. It's going to take more than that.

Heck no! I also know that my antics on here keep me far from anyone's consideration.;)

Was a mod once on a site that didn't even have half of the traffic on here. It's a lot of work. They also didn't allow most of the content that is allowed on here.

I am thankful for what we can do on here.

BTW, My post was mean't in a "joking" manner.

It it weren't for school clothes for 2 kids, a birthday, and an anniversary coming up, I'd donate.

I don't know how I missed this whole thread. I saw the fruities, just never thought to click on them. I thought it was just another green balls club.

Just sent a donation. I'm probably not going to animate my icon for now. Just because I'm lazy and I am swamped. Since I missed the poll, I vote for animated avatars, but I also vote for admin veto powers. Not that I think the admins need to be the art police, I just know that there are members that will push the line.

meh.. I still can't use the animated avatar I found .. even if the site went to the max of 100x100 and 64kb. Any attempt to make it smaller or more compact just makes it look silly.

BYOAC has a 120 x 120, 64K limit I do believe.

Neo-Geo.com has a bigger limit but they over-do it. They also allow images in their SIG which DOES clutter up the place IMHO.

Yea, neo-geo.com is why I was voting against animated avatars - that place is so cluttered with <bleep> in the posts that you can't find the posts half the time!.

I think I like the solution that's been put in place here - the small size of the animated avatars keeps them from being too distracting, and limiting to people who are donors keeps it to the people who are pretty serious.

There's an extension called 'Gif stopper' that implements the ESC functionality just like IE.
There's also one named 'Paused' that seems to automatically stop them after the page completely loads, but it supposedly misses some under some conditions.

I'm playing with Paused right now and it seems to work ok for this site.
