Please take the Animated Avatar survey.

I think most people would look at the graphs and see it as leaning heavily for avatars. But he looked at it and saw them as leaning against.

How do you get "leaning against" out of "huge percentage of the people that have no strong opinion about it, and that for those that do, more people find the animated avatars fun than find them annoying"?

Perhaps I was reading into what he was saying based on my knowing him and how he talks. Perhaps I was right. Perhaps I was wrong. Perhaps it doesn't matter. That last one is the most likely answer.

I am pretty surprised that people find animated avatars annoying. Seems crazy that people would try to shut them down on here. I like to see peoples' creative side in their avatars and I think they actually add to the experience.

If there is a way to disable them for people that don't want to see them, than is sounds like there is a solution for the dial up folks and the haters.

I've been to some forums where they are annoying. Those forums allow huge avatars and images in sigs. I think the images in sigs is the worst offenders. There is an opportunity to put HUGE images there. Super small thumbnails are fine (50x50 or so) for the sig... even multiple ones... but the huge images suck.

Is there any way that the avatar code on KLOV could be made to accept/display IMG tags?

That way the mod wouldn't have to worry about hosting the gif.

tinypic.com hosts animated gifs for free.

There isn't any concern about hosting the images, we host them already. File size is a concern regarding user experience and site performance.

Here's Jehuie's gif hosted on tinypic.com using the default size setting of his gif of 150px × 100px.
nzndpv.gif

.
And that's exactly why we don't allow images in that spot over 100 x100....

Hmmm...thousands log on, 84 vote, based on that, form an opinion that very few care either way. Sounds like a pretty reasonable conclusion to me. How would you interpret the data?

Yup, Jehuie likes to spin...and likes to take jabs at me. Old news.

I think most people would look at the graphs and see it as leaning heavily for avatars. But he looked at it and saw them as leaning against. I wasn't judging it one way or the other. Just saying it was interesting..

Things that make you go 'um...'.

Exactly... It says what it says.

Really.. .um?

I thought I was pretty careful not to really jab. Sorry if it came across that way. I didn't mean for it to. I do appreciate you reconsidering this. As mentioned.

I just have to say I really dont care much about the avatars but honestly I don't get the big deal for people like jehuie? No offense or anythin but your avatar is nothing special no matter what size it is? Why does making it bigger make it better? Please explain to me what the big deal is? I clicked on you lil how my avatar is MEANT to be and it looks just as dumb? Edit: This looks bad but I seriously just want to see if Im missing something here?

Eh, honestly it's more of an ongoing joke. You are right, it really doesn't make any difference.

People just can't tell that it's really arcade related when it's smaller is all.

I don't know. I think it's pretty life and death if you ask me. If I can't get my custom animated gif up as my avatar within the next 24 hours, I don't know what I'm going to do. :(

I would LOVE to have small image capabilities in the signature. I know the larger ones are distracting, but look how nice some of the gamer tag images look in the console gaming forums. I'd love to put together a small image header for my website, or an image that shows the marquees of the games I have in my collection like below (not both at once but you get the ideas I had).

I agree with Jeff :) +1

For what its worth I could tell what it was just fine even small but i'm on a decent screen not my phone or tablet or whatever. I get that in this forum especially people would want to show their skills and creativity with their avatars and I honestly like seeing most of them as it makes people easy to identify quickly and shows some personality I just don't think animation adds much to most I guess?

Posting in the animated avatar thread.

Also I think having marquee thumbnails in your sig would be cool... for the most part.

Guys like Oregonarcade would need an entire page to dsplay his sig.

We are running a little test, and the IAML donors at $20 or greater (all 50 of them at the moment) are the testers.

Those folks can do the following:

Upload an animated avatar, up to 100x100x32k
Upload an animated profile picture, up to 100x100x64k.

I'll consider raising the 32k limit to 40k if necessary but I'd prefer not to. I'm sure the testers will give me feedback on whether or not the 32k is enough in reality.

One day at a time...

FrizzleFried, let's see what you can come up with... :)

... and the IAML donors at ...

What is this IAML thing? I'm seeing Pacman fruit icons under people's names, now... Is there a thread I missed on this? (Oh, hey... Looks like I can click on it and find out. Durr!)

$20 for an animated avatar? Dayum, Greg... :D I'll do it if you let me be able to change my title as well...?

It's late... I put up an older one... it's 26-27K FWIW for comparison purposes...

I'll come up with something new tomorrow. That pic is old.

Thank you for the change mclemore...

If you are serious you might have missed the point on the $20...

Now I am confused, then... You're saying that people that donate $20 or more can have animated avatars (Which I'd like to have) but then if I donate for that reason only, that I'm doing it for the wrong reason?

Or am I still missing the point? Serious question, I am honestly confused.

And yay for Friz' animated avatar!!! You need to update your thread now!!!
