ARGHHH! This missile command trackball unit is killing me! I have four of the five bearings worked free, but the last one is stuck! I've yanked it so much that I broke the inner bearing ring and now only the outer ring is left, still stuck! I've soaked it, torched it, pounded it, cursed it, nothing! Can anyone get it unstuck? I can mail it!

Whip it.

Have you tried just cutting the ring with a hacksaw or dremel and peeling it off?

Soaking it in WD-40 might do the trick, leave it overnight at least for best results.

Another option is heating the metal mounting block so it expands, and then quickly freezing the bearing race using an inverted can of Dust Off. If it works, the bearing race should fall out when you tap the block on a hard surface.

Any penetrating oil (Kroil, Zep, etc.) should do the trick. I had a rusted hinge on my Out Run gas pedal that was completely immovable. Penetrating oil did the trick within hours. WD-40 was a waste of time.

Try a mixture of 50% Automatic Transmission Fluid (Dextron) and 50% Acetone. Cheap and works better than Liquid Wrench. It has the Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC's) good penetrating oils used to have, but cant have now. WD 40 is not really penetrating oil, don't use it.

OK, here's what has not worked. Soaked in liquid wrench for days - nothing. Someone suggested heat and cold. So I threw it on the grill with my steaks and let it heat up nice and toasty, then zapped it with some dust off. Again, still unmoved. Not even a wiggle. This thing is the devil I tell you.

Why not just use a bearing puller? That's what the tool is for and you can find them cheap at places like Harbor Freight. Or if its that bad, just pop for the new bearings and rollers and drop the old one in the recycling bin.

If rust is keeping the parts together, you can try soaking it in tomato juice for a few days. Squeezing your own from whole tomatoes works the best.

I've seen first hand just how "stuck" these bearings can get. Bearing puller or flat blade screwdriver should do the trick.

Pull with the puller or PRY all the way around with the flat blade.

WD-40......garbage.
Liquid Wrench......worthless.

As stated above, you need a REAL penetrating oil. I have had great success with PB Blaster. Others swear by Kroil.

My 50-50 mix of Acetone-Automatic Transmission Fluid works better than both above and is cheap to make. WD-40 is not penetrating oil, it's better than nothing but not much.

marvels mystery oil is good stuff when it comes to cars.

Or tap it with a hammer as you move it around on some concrete..from all possible sides.

sometimes that works pretty good.

Heating it doesn't work either because the the bearings and the assembly are the same temp... one would have to be a different temp to get the expansion to work in your favor.

WD-40, WD=(Water Displacement)... not a lubricant.

Also, I'm not sure of the diameter of the thing... can you get a piece of copper pipe or something to use as a tool to drive it out? Sometimes using a screwdriver (if its not done evenly) can cause it to bind as well.
