Please help fill in missing KLOV entries (We have the flyers!)

We have a number of TAFA flyers that don't tie to any particular KLOV entry yet (almost 1500 of them!).

Some of these flyers just need to be tagged to individual game entries (which at the moment needs to be done by an admin). Some or just confusing ("so are these two records for DDR the same game?"). Some need to be tied to manufacturer records instead of game records (ie: a manufacturer showing off a game cabinet or their company in general but not any specific games).

That leaves a whole lot of games that are just missing from the Database.

The list is here:

[EDIT: 6/9/11 - I took down this link while I continue to make changes to the system, which a few specific users are testing out.]

Does anyone in particular have the time to take on this project?

If that isn't you, can you at least check on or two real quick and then add any records that are needed: http://www.arcade-museum.com/add_game.php ?

The hobby and society thanks you...

Will the list dynamically dwindle as folks enter games? If not, what is to stop multiple people from putting in the same game?

At the moment its not dynamic but someone could adopt a letter of the alphabet and also I can update the list on a regular basis.

Since posting it though, only a single game has been added though :(

I didn't want to double up efforts...

How about this... assign me the letter... lets say... "M"...

The letter 'M' it is. I'll try to get you access to an admin new game approval script later this week that should allow you to approve your own submissions as you add those the 'M's

Thanks
G

This list includes some that are already here...

Take a look at: MAGIC SWORD/NEMO.

It appears that Japanese Flyer covers two games that are already in the database... MAGIC SWORD and NEMO. What should I do when I come across these types of things?

Hey Man,
While I'm really busy right now, I could see myself working some on my favorite game company(Konami). So, let me get this straight. You want us to just click on the Add Game Link in your first post and enter in the basic game info for the game as based on the TAFA flyers on the big list of games flyers also in your first post. Or do we need to verify that there isn't already a listing for said game. I ask cause I could have sworn, I had seen a Cowboys of Moo Mesa listing on KLOV before. I hope those questions make sense.

Well,
For what its worth, I attempted to add one for Castlevania: the Arcade. Hope I got the description close as this is primarily my current grail game seeing how it was never officially released in the US. If the post is semi acceptable, let me know and I will try to do a few more Konami games. Also, I used the wikipedia page for the url. I can use the TAFA flyer page if that is preferable. Just let me know.

happy to help out - i am not doing much cause i have a torn muscle so i could do a few. i'll take do some of the A's and i'll list the ones i have done.!:D

#13 a.b.cop - air bike; status: not in KLOV, update: added (first one, hope i am getting this right! 1 down.)
#2442 AAARGH!; status: not in KLOV, update: added

hmm. scrolling thru both KLOV & TAFA, i noticed that there is no entry for the Williams release of the 1942 game! could this be added to the list too ? i havent seen any mention of a flyer as yet anywhere, hoping someone has even a magazine article about the release of this one...we know it exists!

ok, added 2 as above, added the 1942 williams as well. time to take a dog walk break.

#6478 Acey Deucy, Game-a-tron; Status: not in KLOV; Update: added. entry might need review as i may have mis-spelt deucy

I changed the process here... Instead of having to add a game into a submit queue and then someone else having to approve it, I made the game edit utility a little more user friendly and added some logging in case something goes wrong.

Friz has access now (see the new 'Admin') link at the top left of any page you look at on the main site. That takes you to a menu where you can add edit any game directly, or you can look at the TAFA orphan list (which generates dynamically for you). If a game on the TAFA list needs to be added to the main database, there is now a link on the list which will automatically add the record and bring it up in the game edit page. The TAFA flyer will already be added to it automatically. What you will likely have to do is to pick the manufacturer from the drop down, however, or click 'Add New Manufacturer' if you are sure it isn't in there already (please be sure...).

While editing any game record there is a link at the top right of the page that allows you to create a new game record on the fly.

Friz is the test user on this at the moment. If everything looks clear to him and works well I'll begin to expand access.

Yes, there are likely lots of flyers that are actually in the database already. I wrote a script to auto-match records that matched not only exact matches but close ones too, but this looked too strange to the script.

In this case, you could (in the editor menu) click 'Edit Game', or do a search on the main site for Magic Sword and click the 'edit' link, or bring up the actual game page and you will see a 'Edit Game' link at the bottom left next to a 'Add Magic Sword To Your VAPS Profile' link (if applicable). Then at the very bottom of the edit game form there is a section of adding a TAFA entry. You just need to enter in the TAFA flyer id number (in this case '4156') and click add. Then do the same thing for 'Nemo'. It's fine to have the same TAFA flyer referenced by more than one game.

Thanks again for the help.

Hold off.. Let Frizz test it out first and then I'll give you access. In the case you mentioned. TAFA knows the game as "Cowboys of Moo Mesa" and KLOV has it as "Wild West C.O.W.-Boys Of Moo Mesa". So the auto match didn't work. (When you have access..) you can bring up the game in KLOV, then click the 'edit game' link, then at the bottom of the page enter in the TAFA ID # from the TAFA Report (1565) and hit add. Then the KLOV record will have a link to the TAFA flyer, and the TAFA flyer will disappear from the orphan report.

Well,

I approved that submission...

I'd love to do anything I can to help. Can you pick a letter for me, and I'll take it on?

I'll follow up with you in a few days. Thanks.

#6478 Acey Deucy, Game-a-tron; Status: not in KLOV; Update: added. entry might need review as i may have mis-spelt deucy

I approved the Air Bike game (there was already an A.B. Cop....this is a different game, right?), AAARGH (I could have sworn that used to be in the database (?), and the 1942 Williams (but I gave it a 1984 date because I wasn't sure your 82 date was correct). Not sure what happened, I didn't see it. There is a 1960 Pinball machine named 'Acey Ducy' in the db already though...

Upon looking for the Konami games on the list, just found both Bass Angler and its English counterpart Fisherman's Bait are both on KLOV as well as International Arcade Museum. I did notice its sequels Bass Angler 2 and Fisherman's Bait 2 are missing though.

And the Bubble System is a semi-failed board conversion class that was abandoned after 5 games (including Gradius and Twin Bee) according to system 16.
http://www.system16.com/hardware.php?id=559

But if you want, I could still do a page for it based on the System 16 info.

I did just post one for Byon Byon. Having never seen the game, I hope the description is accurate.

damn i swear i checked & there was no A. B. Cop in the klov list. i poss had wrong category selected when searching.
looking at both, they will need to be reconciled (looks like the same item) - "Air Bike" was a second line in the title of the game on the flyer, the 1990 date was on the TAFA db, so i would say need to reconcile by merging/updating the two entries ie adding the extra "A. B. Cop - Air Bike" info to A.B. Cop and add "- Air Bike" to the name, although the original A.B. Cop entry has a date of 1989 not 1990 as per TAFA (head scratch) - maybe need to ask the owner of the machine on vaps if the date is def 1989 - i can chase that up.

1942 williams - the 1982 date instead of 1984 must have been a slip o the finger. sorry and thanks for the fix!
I had trouble uploading images for this one so i wil have to try that again later, if i am able to edit the entry otherwise lmk where to send the images so they can be added. (marquee, bezel, cpo, game screen, sideart, cpo stickers, FCC cage sticker

Acey Ducy - i saw that pinball machine on klov when i checked first. The new Acey Deucy (dif spelling!) entry is an upright video/cards/slot style machine (not pinball) and the acey deucy card game is one of 8 diff games on the flyer.

i shall be more careful with the next few. once i get in the swing of it i shouldnt generate unnecessary errors.
