Please go see Tron: Legacy this weekend

I'd be more than willing to bet that this movie's box office run will encourage another movie if nothing else. You know that $43 million was brought in by people like us who are going to drag everyone else to the movie that wouldn't normally see it themselves.

Don't forget merchandising. The graphic novels, figures, clothing, soundtrack, and later DVDs/BluRays are where the real money is.

Speaking of which Tron Evolution on the Wii was somewhat disappointing. I thought they could have really up'd the game play.

Everything I've read about the different console versions of Tron Evolution has been bad, but apparently almost all of the backstory in the game is also in the Betrayal graphic novel (so no need to suffer through an allegedly unplayable game :) ).

Why should I care about Hollywood taking games and gamers seriously?

+1

Some mediums should not give a shit about other mediums "taking them seriously". If anything, Hollywood has been trying to get people to stop playing video games so they would spend more time paying for their drek.

Go see the movie because you want to see the movie. Don't fool yourself into thinking there is a viable "cause" involved. Especially related to Hollywood giving a shit about what game/book/comics/music/whatever other entertainment medium fans think or want.

Loved it! I saw it in Real3D and thought it didn't really enhance the experience. Maybe IMAX was the better choice. Regardless, I thought the film was well done and can't wait to add this one to my Blue-Ray collection this spring.

My wife and I saw it in IMAX 3D this afternoon and enjoyed it a lot.

If you liked the original, you should like the new one. And if you didn't see the original, there's enough backstory provided that you can follow things without it... but you'll miss some of the references to the original that they slipped in there.

43 million for one weekend in equals trilogy in hollywood. Imagine the worldwide distribution and streaming goodies next christmas.

I'm excited about the sequels... but what I really want is a new arcade game!!

Ditto. While I'd love an original Tron or an EDOT, the magic of the new, more realistic grid calls for a new release to imitate the new experience.

I for one am sick of all the videogame adaptations being given to bottom-feeding writers and D-list directors because studios think gamers aren't worth the effort.

...like the writers and director of Tron: Legacy!? OoOOOooooOOOOOOOooooooooooOOoOOoooooooooooHHHhhhH shiiiiiiit. ;)

Saw it last saturday and enjoyed it.. but I think that knowing the 1st movie well helped understand a lot of things that I would have been confused about...

i saw it tonight and was completely satisfied with it. LOVED it.
