Please go see Tron: Legacy this weekend

I really liked it and I hate most modern movies. The story was lame, more or less, I mean it could have been worse, but it was eye candy like 90% of the time. It just looked really nice all the time.. which is funny to say, but it's true. Visually it was really good and I'm thinking of seeing it again for that reason. The closest IMAX to us that's showing it is and hour and a half away though :/

all I want to know is...

is it HONESTLY as good or better than the first one?... or are you guys just maybe riding the "ZOMG NeW TrON movie since like 4EVAR" hype train???

Be honest now... and please, no spoilers.

I guess what I'm wondering is... forgetting how awesome the graphics might be....

is the acting and story as good as the first movie?... and does the new movie compliment the Tron universe or change it so much that the only thing that remains the same are the light suites??

Based on the previews I saw it seemed like they went a similar direction that they did with the Star Trek remake. Lots of action and pretty graphics, but an OK story that you shouldn't think too hard about.

While I know it's not remotely the masterwork of film, the original TRON is my all time favorite movie. So of course I didn't expect to enjoy TRON: Legacy more than the original, and I didn't ... but not by much. It does so much justice to the characters and story of the original film, it's pretty unbelievable that it ended up working out this well. I don't want to spoil anything but really this was for fans of the original film. Not for someone that's seen the original once, or that remembers it as being "okay" - this movie was for those that love TRON.

Just subscribing to another Tron thread! ;)

Muahahahahahahahaha.

It is definitely as good... but it's a totally different thing. They're each better in their own ways and you honestly can't compare them side by side. They complement each other.

The graphics of the first film were truly revolutionary... nobody had ever seen that world before. So it would be impossible to recapture that. Instead, the new film kicks it up a notch in terms of technical mastery and sheer beauty and it is obvious that the team at DD really put a lot of genuine passion for the original into their work. It is amazing to behold. In terms of story, though, they are very similar.

It is definitely a fun ride.

I like the original and I like this sequel. The acting is as good as the original. There are a number of nods to the original movie if you remember it well. As to the point of weather or not it compliments the tron universe. It will depend on how picky you are.

hopefully this is not a spoiler to anyone.

This tron movie takes place in a new world that flynn has created so technically it's not the old tron universe at all. So what we see in legacy is not the same old tron world 28 years later, it's flynns new creation. I think it works well but I've read a few comments from people here that have complained that they changed this or didn't do that ect. The answer in the context of the movie is that while the first movie was a world that flynn was thrust into with no previous knowledge of this movie takes place in the universe that flynn tried to envision and build as his own. Not sure if that helps or adds to the confusion of those who have not seen the movie. Over all I really liked it.

My sister took me to TRON: Legacy for my Birthday Friday night. I, and she, loved it. She was in awe of the sets, the world, the history, the action. She asked if I'd have her over this week to screen the original, so she can get a better idea of where Legacy came from. She asked if we could go see the new one again next Friday after we watch the original. I wanna see both of them again too, actually, so I think we will do both. The movie was great. The CGI Flynn (Not CLU, he looked like he should have, slightly digitized) was a little hokey/weird. Like when he was talking to his son on the bed before he took off on his motorcycle, and especially when he first 'created' CLU. For me, it wasn't the soul-less eyes that bothered me, it was the lips, the mouth and the lower chin. There was something unnatural about that whole region of the face. Every time one of the CGI Flynn's would talk in a flashback scene in the movie, all I could think of was Fiona from the Schrek movies. Even with that little complaint, the movie still rocked. I am not sure what is with all the haters, unless they were just too young to get the original.

You know. Funny thing is I looked through all 60 some posts in the "tron sucks " thread and only 3 people actually agreed it sucked. I think most people here liked it. I have now seen it twice. First was a midnight showing at imax which was close to sold out. Next was a midday showing on Saturday. There were only 30 people there, possibly less. I think it's a really good movie. unfortunately I don't think there are enough people who care or are aware of the movie to give it the sales Disney would like to see. Hopefully I'm proved wrong. I'm a little concerned though that we will not get a sequel due to weak box office performance.

I'm planning on seeing it tonight. Are the 3D affects really cool? Regular or 3D? which one would be best?

anybody have a torrent yet? its gonne be a few weeks before i have the time/money to go, but could watch it on the big screen right here at the house.

I though the movie was great, but my very minor complaint.. Anyone else disappointed that the transfer from the real world to the Tron universe was just a quick zap instead of the whole kaleidoscope type thing they did in the first one? I was thinking they were going to really do it up for that. Very minor.. I really dug everything else about it.

I wish I could go see it, but my legs swell up in less than 2 hours, so it would be kind of uncomfortable to sit though it. I might still have gone, but our local theater, in their infinite wisdom has decided to show it in 2D. We have the 3D set up, but they are showing Tron in 2D.

My friend and his wife left for Denver last night and watched Tron on the IMAX screen this afternoon. Denver is a four and a half hour drive one way from here. Now that's dedication.

I gotta agree on you with that one... I was so disappointed when it was a quick transfer. Didn't make the movie any less good but I was looking forward to what special effects they used for it.

TRON Legacy was great!

I thought the movie was great. I went to IMAX 3D and loved it! It was so cool to see the original actors in it. The original TRON is in my top five movies of all time.....Dr. Strangelove, Star Wars, Empire Strikes Back, Monty Python Holy Grail, TRON......of course I'm an old fart at 45 but the original was so awesome when it came out in 1982.....nobody had a home computer then! OK, maybe a VIC 20 or a Commadore 64.......the cgi in the original was way ahead of it's time.....love'n it!

Also one of my few complaints... it should have been more faithful to the original. It was much too fast and lacked the magic. Once he was there, though... wow.

NO MORE SPOILERS!!!

The numbers are in and I guess tron did ok. They were expecting $50 million usa for the weekend and it looks like its going to pull in $43.6 million usa and $23 million international.

That pretty much answers what I was looking for. Thanks!!

I'll pony up and go see it ASAP. Hope my IMAX is showing it. :)
