This thread concerns guidelines for asking questions on these forums about pricing, either as a potential buyer or potential seller of an item.

Background: Price Policing (criticizing prices posted by sellers of items) got out of hand on these forums, and has been banned. There is still a need for potential sellers and/or potential buyers of an item to ask for feedback when they aren't sure what the current market is for something. This is what Pricing Question threads are for. The general idea is to allow pricing questions threads, as long as they are genuine and honest in nature and not hidden attempts to critique or price police another thread on these forums. We proposed making a separate forum section for such pricing questions, though after reviewing user feedback on same, have decided that such a section is unnecessary at this time.

If you are going to post a pricing question, please follow the following guidelines:

1) Remember that Price Policing is banned in all forum sections. If you are a potential buyer or sellers you can solicit opinions for the proper price for something, as long as such solicitations are not a back-handed attempt at price policing.

2) Pricing questions should be limited to the General Discussion forum for most modern arcade items, or alternatively, can be posted in specific machines sections (ie: slot machines) if applicable. We reserve the right to move "PQ:" threads from the general discussion section to another forum section in the future if we think that makes sense. Don't put them in the 'For Sale' sections at this time.

3) Start the title of all Pricing Question threads with "PQ: ".

4) If you want to start a thread in reference to an item in the For Sale section, ONLY do so if you are truly interested in buying the item and am not sure of its value. If you think a listed item is overpriced and want to start a critique of a for sale thread, then DO NOT POST here.

5) If you want to start a thread in reference to an item on an external web site or retail store, ONLY do so if you are truly interested in buying the item and am not sure of its value. An exception for price policing currently exists for items in which external sellers are asking over $5,000 for, and for which a price is so high as to be deemed humorous. In such cases, don't start the thread with PQ, and post it in the Trading Post/External/eBay/Craigslist section.

6) Do not start a thread as a transparent or not so transparent way to critique an item listed in the For Sale section, or to invite such critique from others.

7) If responding to a thread, don't take it off topic, and don't start a fight.

8) Don't post anything (either in starting a thread or in replying to one) that is intended as bait for the "Price Police" to trash someone's For Sale post.

9) Perception is just as important as your intent. Even an innocent thread or post might get deleted by a moderator and action might be taken against your account if a post looks questionable to others.

here are a few more pictures of the color tapper--machine has no water damage--very low plays on the meter-- #280

Man, this is one of the games I'm still looking for. I have a restored Widebody I could trade but the shipping both ways would kinda suck.

It would be interesting if this site could gather sold prices so that there would be a constant up to date record of what each game sells.

Exidy's guide is a good start but it definitely is up to date on some stuff, outdated on others. Check Forgotten Worlds for example.

I think since he does this in his spare time and it is just a starting point it is good (like priceharting) to just gauge a feel.

its really pretty off if you look at it closely. Way too much work for someone to keep a list even close to up to date. So at best its a jumping off point. As for tapper, I think its pretty close. I actually think its too high if you ask me. I think $1k-$1500+ is about right. I really hate the way the color one looks. If you ask me it should be worth less than the mono one. But people will pay more for it. I would think +$250-$500 for the color one.

Its too bad it cant be somehow automated. On pinside it looks like it tracks ebay and archives all the listings it has on its site to give you a range. you far better off posting a price check if your not sure. Check ebay past auctions for a good idea too.

I mean I agree it is off in many ways. I also agree Tapper is more along the $1200-1500 range which is what I would pay for one myself.

I don't think the list is that much work if you deal in machines often and allow for feedback. Heck I would LOVE to make my own price list/guide on those but Exidy's is the go to guide already. Better to just update that one.

had an offer in exidys price range but would like to trade right now so it looks like he has the tapper price right on the mark.

think most of the prices with NEW out beside them are more in line but others have not been updated in some time--

hey DREAMTR you need to get off the forum and make some money and pay me off :)

The stores and ebay are working on my debt!

=D

all pms answered

looking for trades first unless someone really wows me with an offer :)

here is what exidy has them currently at
Tapper - Dedicated upright game (regular version) $1800-$3000
Tapper - Dedicated with color sideart - $2000-$3500. Collector price

thanks

I think Exidy's prices are spot on Tapper's right now in the current market for them. Some people won't agree because they don't want to pay the price of what they're going for or looking for that cheap deal or don't have the money, but it is what is. Games are only worth what someone is willing to pay.

this one on ebay probably sold to someone outside ebay, but what should be of note is that it did not sell for 7 days at a price between $1500 and 2k. I would assume it sold for the lower end of the range.
