The lack of a HighScore kit for Scramble cameup on another thread. Would there be enough intersted in this kit for someone to build it up? Speak up of you would also be interested in purchasing a HS kit for the classic Scramble...

Now that Braze Technologies is currently not producing any new HighScore kits (and hasn't since 2006) is there anyone else that makes them?

http://www.brasington.org/arcade/

Sure. I believe at least 2 people that post regularly on this site make (or have made) HS kits. Whether a) they're interested and b) it's technically feasible I don't know - hopefully we'll find out.

I thought it would be semi-easy/cool to make a scramble/super cobra multi-kit. I found out on this site that it is not a simple ROM swap, too bad.

But, I wonder if some of these share enough to have a HS kit that works for multiple games (Scramble, Super Cobra, plus any others).

Anyone?

That is a great idea! Now we just need someone to make it.

scramble and super cobra are just different enough to make a multi a pain in the ass...

Awesome (your previous post about HS kit).

Would the scramble HS (and possible FP) kit work in any other games (Super Cobra, for example) or are those same differences going to prevent that?

Same board, different ROMs... hopefully the leg work from scramble will make super cobra easier...

Very cool! Works with both flavors of scramble?

I haven't decided how I'm going to implement it yet.

A while back I did a DK hack that steals the reset vector, then does full RAM / ROM tests (with crc32, not just checksums) to verify the board, then mirrors some of the RAM locations into an on-board NOVRAM and jumps into the game code right at the start of attract mode, so technically it's always playing using the ROMs on the board, and the ROM on the kit is just for verification... but I did this just for shits and giggles, because there's no way the morons at Twin Galaxies would ever be able to understand that this is a 100% valid way of doing a high score save that does not affect gameplay at all...

For a high score save only, this would work for scramble, and be a good diagnostic tool.... I haven't looked at the stern code yet to see if it's generally the same and memory addresses are 'close enough' to use the same kits on both flavors of boards.

The other option is to do a complete rom replacement on the daughterboard, using a serial eprom to do the high score save (I've got the code written for that too), and for that sort of kit, I could add free play with attract mode, attract mode while coined up, etc... in addition to just the high score save. This kit (obviously) would have changed ROMs and would not be 'valid' for the homos over at Twin Galaxies (despite the face that only attract mode code is changed, and the actual game code is unaffected).

Last night. I traced out the whole attract mode state machine and know what I need to change to do the attract mode while coined up / in free play, but I haven't sat down and written the patches and new code yet... unfortunately, there aren't any spare dips, so I'll have to re-purpose one of the coinage dips/settings to do free play...

Since it's *way* too hot in my attic to do hardware work right now, hacking assembly is the way to go ;)
