Okay, so my Frogger cabinet isn't very pretty (see photo for proof) but it's an original. I had to de-convert it from...I can't even remember. Don't know how I got so lucky to find an original cardboard monitor bezel and instruction card for it. I peeled the old control panel overlay, and the whole Frogger one was still there and good enough for the shape the cabinet's in. That grinder mark next to the right fire button is unfortunate, but whatever.

Anyway, the fact that it's already had a button added to the CP opens up the opportunity to play Time Pilot and Gyruss on the same harness without further modifications. And for those, I REALLY want the Monroe-style stick. BTW, I don't have the original Frogger stick anyway, just a regular Wico leaf.

But is Frogger playable on a Monroe? Anyone tried it?

I'd imagine it would help using a Monroe 4-way at least, but that's a no-go for TP and Gyruss. Unless the Gyruss-style with 4-way restrictor (say, the one sold at arcadeshop) is still okay playing with the 4-way restrictor plate removed and no 8-way put in its place? Probably not up for buying 2 sticks to get different restrictors...or for fabbing an extra restrictor myself.

Ideas? Thanks in advance...

Gyruss is a dick-slap to try and play 4way as I am sure you know, you will get "stuck" at 90 degree intervals.
I think you could get away with monroe 8 way on frogger, its a pretty solid "push" to get the directions you want. It may be a little too much even? I find in Frogger you are often making a lot of moves quickly, back to back, and the leaf switches on mine are set pretty tight so you dont need much travel to acuate, with the monroe you may not be able to make the quick, back to back moves as easily. Could you do it? I think yes, will frogger be the game that plays the worst of the 3 with that stick, almost for sure.

I have a 6-way switcher and a BitKit in my Mikie cab which has a Monroe stick in it. Playing Frogger is a little sloppy with a Monroe since you can easily jump in the wrong direction or accidentally double jump. I will say playing Mr. TNT and Anteater with a Monroe is pretty great IMHO.

Thanks for the input. I haven't been able to play anything with an actual Monroe stick in a long time, and don't really remember how long the 'throw' is--or the resistance, for that matter. My collection has only rescues in it, nothing original and pristine. And the retro arcades around here have some very "interesting" non-original parts choices.

I'd never consider playing Gyruss with a 4-way anything. But I'd CONSIDER trying Frogger with a Monroe, no matter who it might piss off. Just wondered if anyone already knew that it sucks....or maybe even that it works ok.

...and there's @GothGirl with some actual experimental data---thanks! Sounds like her review would be 'it's kinda sucky.' Might not bother anyone who can't finish the first level of Frogger, but I'm at least a little better than that.
