Playing arcade games can feed dozens of hungry families!?

Playing arcade games can feed dozens of hungry families!?
YES, it can!

First, a big THANK YOU and huge debt of gratitude to all of the local KLOVers, local collectors, and other local yocals who came out to my yearly game nerd party / food drive. I asked for nothing other than to bring some friends and family, and canned food donations... the response was overwhelming!

I've worked my insomniac hours fixing my machines in the house to 97% overall operational, with only one dead soldier!! I had over 3 dozen games on inside the house, about 40 people showed up throughout the day, and we collected over 400 food items going towards my Thanksgiving food bank donation. Everyone had a blast! We popped the breaker on 1/3rd the house a couple of times, I finally conceded and unplugged three machines. I need to do some more clever power re-routing but with everything actually working its too much load on the driving room, all the racing games, along with the pinballs and lights die at once!! Daytona USA 4 player was a smash hit, so was Ice Cold Beer and Zeke's Peak always with someone at the controls... Warlords didn't get much love at the party, but the row of classics in the back saw constant affection.

NOW, TO THE FEEDING OF PEOPLE. I've been going balls out for a month now, had two game parties and drove all over hell and creation picking of canned and boxed foods. I'M OBSESSIVE COMPULSIVE TO A LARGE DEGREE, SO WHEN I SET A GOAL AND AM SERIOUS I MUST GO ALL THE WAY WITHOUT EFFIN' AROUND. I ASKED EVERY PERSON AND BUSINESS THAT I KNOW IF THEY HAD ANY FOOD TO DONATE. AFTER HAVING MY BRAIN STUCK ON FOOD GATHERING MODE FOR THE LAST MONTH NOW I GOT A JAW DROPPING TOTAL COLLECTION FOR THE YEAR...

I gathered 2,211 total food items for my Thanksgiving donation to the local food bank this year!! It was effin' awesome, all of the food would not fit in my truck!! I had to get a cube van from work for the haul, went back home this morning with a couple guys to help me load the HUGE haul and turn it into the commissary at work for counting and delivery to the food bank. I blew the other groups out of the water, nobody thought I could pull off even the 1,000 that I had last year.

I hit it outta the G-Damn park this year, my psycho ass competitiveness couldn't have been at a better time! With the state of the economy and the tight squeeze everyone is in, the food donations at the local food banks have been dismal.

I am really glad that my arcade hobby can help my community, who said video games are evil?! Yet again, thank you the the local collectors who made it to the party(s) and brought out the canned goodness for my yearly efforts!

Here's a few pics of the final clusterfuck of the 2,211 food items, and of course my infamous haulin' pic of the load. The picture of the food snaking around my living room and kitchen was waist high and 18 feet long!!

I'm just glad I could do something to help people, and hoping that I can get back to normal life again now! I still have a job, scared as hell, but as long as I'm not homeless I'll do my part to help in society...

I was glad to help and had alot of fun. I played the piss out of Warlords. Mike Sandwick, Matt Griffin and I played a ton of games on it. So Warlords definately got some love. - Barry

:D Cool! Was so busy going a hundred miles an hour and hadn't noticed any fierce action going when I was back there. We played a few rounds late late night as the last few of us were lounging around bs'ing.

Congrats! Good games and a worthy cause - can't ask for much more than that!

Lars and Chris Mansfield (and you?) were kickin' my ass at Warlords...

glad i could help contribute to a worthy cause.
Hahaha, you beat me to saying that! Weren't we talking about how nobody played Warlords and we were shocked?!

It was you, me, Lars, Chris, and John pulling the late nighter... and yes, you did get your ass handed to ya'!! :D

Well done, FT. I applaud your efforts. Anytime we can help feed those in need is a great time indeed. Awesome work, man. Just awesome.

Here's a few pics of the KLOV/gamer party from last week that were sent to me... I had my camera in my pocket but was so busy running around that I only thought of snapping one pic myself.

And here's 3 more... maybe next time I'll make it a point to get pictures of everyone. At two different times we had talked about a group picture but it never happened. Pictured are a few klovers and local collectors, and some of their kids who enjoyed playing arcades till their hands were blistered and their eyes were bugging out of the sockets!

When I get time later I'll try and think of the list of klovers and collectors that made it...

Karl, you've really set yourself up. Just think of next year! You've gone from 1000 units to 2211. How many next year?!?!?! Anything less than 3000 will be a big disappointment! ;)

Whover showed up with the Ramen and Soda should be beat with a rubber hose...

No Offense.

I donated those!! :D Norton, if you provide the beating can you at least tie me up first?

I prefer one kind of sodapop so anything else unopened went to donation... I figure even poor people need to drink something other than water, which I donated alot of bottled water also... The Ramen is good for a cheap easy lunch, even an idiot can make it, and the donated cash fed more people that way than if I were to buy more green beans, corn, and canned Chili which we had tons of already! :)

I agree! Now that I understand how much work and effort 2,000 food items and how many people it can feed, I know 3,000 is within my reach. I have a few clever ideas on how to get more donations, plus starting a little earlier and giving some incentive to the big donations will easily yield next years goal.

Its sad that one person alone doubled the amount of food donation than the other 1,000 employees in other departments combined... it seems that most people could give a shit less if people even in their own community are hungry and in need of some relief.
