Hi all,
If you saw my "barn pics" post, you may have noticed a couple pins outside the barn that have been exposed to the elements for awhile. They were in a warehouse fire and were left to rot. The playfield glass was still on a Black Rose though the bottom and back box were completely rotted away the playfield wasn't too damaged. I was thinking of cleaning it up and lighting it with LED's for wall art but was wondering how practical it is.
If it goes well there was a STTNG playfield out there as well I may try that on, though I think I'll have to strip that one, the plastics were all melted to little puddles :)

Does anyone have examples of other attempts?

Thanks!
Dan

I think that would be a pretty cool project as long as it only needs a simple cleanup. Create a simple box that will hold it and some plexi (to reduce weight over glass). Use the original GI wiring to simplify things, and add some flasher bulbs to playfield inserts you want to blink.

Add a power supply or Wall Wart( if suitable enough amperage wise) and you are good to go.

Any chance you might be able to sell (cheaply) one of those playfields? I'm only looking for one to try out my hand at clear coating and paint touching up. If I can try it on a trashed playfield, there's no fear for me to try it out. I might be interested in two or three, actually.

The mere fact that I accomplished it with good results should be reason enough to think you can. :)

I've seen people use LED Christmas lights for the inserts. There are strings with several different flash patterns. The coolest option would be to use LEDs in the existing lamp sockets and drive the lamp matrix with a microcontroller and some transistors but it's not exactly a "drop in" option.

I was thinking of playing around with some Arduino stuff and see if I could get some of the light/motor sequences reproduced. I've been grabbing some of that stuff to make my own LED Cube anyway :) There are some great youtube videos showing gameplay I could use, we'll see how the cleaning/relighting goes.

The PCB's were removed from the cabinet but I snagged the DMD out of the cabinet, has anyone seen them hacked before?

In response to the previous post, I have access to the other outdoor playfields, but I really don't have the time/means/provisions to ship, sorry.

I would love to see pics of this when it is all finished, as I just picked up a pinbot that came with an extra playfield. I think this a a hell of a cool idea.

Well after taking on additional projects and the fact that I don't actually have any wall real-estate to hang a wall box this size i've decided not to do this as planned.
I had a guy over not too long ago that said I should strip the playfield and eBay the parts. Is there much of a market for used pinball parts? I always thought the traffic was in NOS and new stuff?

Anything of value I should think about selling off this thing?

Wow, i have never seen that game before! Looks really cool to me. Something about it just appeals to me. Its to bad to see it in that condition.

Well dang, I was looking forward to seeing this project completed. Well I may still do this to my extra pinbot playfield as I love the idea. It will take me a while as I have a ton of projects going on right now, but if I ever do it I will definitely post pictures.
