My funhouse playfield is 80% mylar in good shape except for bubbling over the lighted clock inserts. Can I use Novas 2 to clean BOTH the mylar and the bare painted playfield? When I wax afterwards, do I wax BOTH the painted and mylared parts of the playfiled. In other words, wax the entire playfield. I assume a good car wax will work.

Thanks

Yes, Novus 2 all the way. Then use a good carnuba based wax and hit everything 2 or 3 times, meaning wax dry remove. etc...wax the pinball it self and ramps. Your game will be *fast*.

Hope this helps...

Carrnuba Wax

Regarding the carnuba wax, it is getting hard to find. The pure carnuba wax without polishing agents is no longer available here at Wal-Mart, K-Mart, Autozone, etc. I had to order some from Amazon. Got Mother's pure carnuba. The kinda at the stores local all have polishing agents which is not what you want.

cleaning bare wood areas

is Novus 2 safe on bare wood areas like the alley where the plunger is? What is Novus 1 and 3 used for. Do you know where to get novus 2 locally? Will an 8oz bottle do the whole playfield? I heard Harley Davidson stores carry it.

Yes, you can use Novus number 2 on bare wood. It won't hurt. No 1 is a spray and used in the same manner for fine scratches and static. no 3 is for coarser scratches and you need to have some elbow grease on this. It is thicker and you will see the difference.

I've always used Meguiar's Caranuba wax. It's still available at Autozone in my area.

I agree w/ configurethis and also use Novus 2 on all the playfield surfaces. I will also take my ramps and put them in the dishwasher on the quick rinse cycle 2 times. First w/ detergent, 2nd time w/o. Then use novus 2 on the ground in dirt. Finally wax the ramps w/ Meguiar's caranuba wax 2-3 times. Simply beautiful. They come out like new.

sounds like a plan. Is wax ok for plastic ramps?

I thought wax would make plastic ramps hazey and cloudy. I know wax on car trim and plastic sometimes does that. Do the ramps look clear after waxing with carnuba wax?

I've always waxed my ramps. I just finished restoring a Game Show Pin. Here are pics of the ramp progress. The 1st pic is before cleaning. The 2nd is after the two washes in the dishwasher (you can still see the ground in line where the ball travels). The 3rd is after a cleaning w/ Novus 2 and 2 coats of Meguires Caranuba. But like anything, test it for yourself. Maybe a plastic ramp that is under the playfield. If you like the results, do it to all.
