played some pinball "in the wild" tonight....

i live in a really dry area as far as pins on route go...there are 4 that i know of within a 40 minute drive or so. but there's a small little mini-golf/batting cages/arcade place about 2 minutes from my house that has a REVENGE FROM MARS pin. it's usually not working, along with probably half of their 10-15 games (lol), but tonight it was on and working fine.

took the kids up there to play some redemption games (ugggggghhhh....but, hey, it keeps 'em entertained for a quarter at a time) and i played some pinball. now, i have played this pin several times and really never got into it....heck, i'd go so far as to say that i never really liked it.

but for some reason, it kind of clicked for me tonight. maybe it was because it was finally in 100% working order, but i actually found it rather fun. and it was a bit faster playing than i remember in the past.

anybody else a fan of RFM? anybody own one? what do you think of the long term replayability? i thought about contacting the operator and seeing if he would be willing to sell it and for how much.....i can't imagine it's bringing in any kind of steady cash flow at this place.

I found a place just a few blocks away that has a Star Wars Episode 1, spent over $20 on it the other night. After watching the Tilt DVD half a dozen times I got really interested in the Pinball 2000 games, actually would love to own a RFM partly due to the novelty and the uniqueness but I do like the gameplay. Simple layout of course but the video modes make it quite fun.

Most pinhead People hate those Williams Ballys 2000 machines. They Credit them for killing off Bally/Williams

i totally understand that.

but we're past that point now....like, a decade past it. i was not a fan of that particular pin prior to tonight based on gameplay alone, but for whatever reason, it started clicking for me while i was playing tonight. that's the only reason i started the thread.

i know some folks are down on it because of the whole "death of pinball" stuff, but i think it's probably time to move past that. it is what it is. my thing now is, is the pin fun or not? :)

It's a Pin/Vid too me i did'nt feel like i was playing a Pinball machine.

i get that point too. pretty much what turned me off at first......like i said, this thing is 2 minutes from my house. i've played it a bunch (simply because it's the closest routed pin i have access to) and i've never really gotten into it.

but for whatever reason, tonight it was fun. now, i may go back and play it next week or next month and hate it again, but i totally enjoyed it tonight. and again, i get the whole pin/vid thing......was totally on board with that before playing it again tonight.

I've only played one RFM two times, it was a machine on route and it wasn't 100% working. It was kind of neat, and I can see why some people like it, but it didn't really excite me. But I'll need to play an RFM that is in good working condition to form a good opinion of the game. Hopefully some day I'll get the chance.

I like RFM a lot. People can argue all day long that it's not a true pin, but who cares. If it's fun, that's all that matters. I would buy one in a heartbeat if the price was right. :)
