Playchoice single monitor cab. Can I replace the Zenith monitor with a 20EZ?

Playchoice single monitor cab. Can I replace the Zenith monitor with a 20EZ?

I have the K7000a Zenith version single monitor cab and want to put a Sanyo 20EZ monitor in it. There is no plug/outlet for the 20 EZ power cord to plug into like the power supply used in the dual monitor cab.

Is the power supply in this single monitor cab safe to use with a 20EZ? Does it output too much power for the Sanyo monitor since the cab originally uses the K7000a?
 
most likely you're getting a 120V feed to the K7000A. the Nintendo monitor would require 100V. you'd need a stepdown transformer and you could create your own outlet by running the wires off that over to an outlet from the hardware store.

sounds like a fun project. hardest part would be sourcing the stepdown transformer though, I don't know where to acquire those.

Why not just put a regular K7000 chassis in it?!??
 
get a common 100v nintendo iso. split the a/c coming in to power the 120 and 100v iso's. plug the ez20 into the 100v iso, leave everything else plugged in how it is now.

I didnt know a regular K7000 chassis could be used with the Zenith tube. Ill see if I have a spare. The reason I tried to use the 20EZ is because its the only working monitor I have laying around.

So basically I can put in any 19" monitor, other than a 100v, and be fine. No stepdown or extra wiring required.

Just my opinion, do it at your own risk, I think the Sanyo will run fine at 120 volts. The problem people run into is when they plug it in without an ISO... but if you ran it at 120 and adjusted the B+ to 108 like it should be you should be fine.

So a monitor rated to run at 100v +/- 10% should run fine at 120v?

I have read dozens of threads where people did that and ended up with some mighty fine smoke :)
 
I might do a video with one of mine plugged into an iso at 120v just to end the debate. Be fun to see how long it last and what blows. If anything does :)
 
I just searched '20ez' and "120v' like you said, and couldn't find any threads saying anything about it actually DOING it, just a bunch of people saying it WOULD do it. The few I found that were fried were because they plugged in into a wall.

I'm not saying it would be definitely be fine, just saying it very well might work.... if you adjusted the B+ down.

I think it would depend on if the 5112N chip will burn up with 120 volts going to it instead of 100volts.

You might be right. I'll hook one up Friday night and see what it does.
 
I think an issue would be like you said the +-10v... I've had some Williams games before that the transformer was sending over 130volts to the monitor, and if the 5112n chip is rated at 100 and you're throwing 130 volts or more at it, it might crap out... if it's rated at 100 and your iso is putting out 120... might get away with it...
