I'm not quite sure where to ask this but I seen others ask it here so if it's in the wrong place I'm sorry. I have been doing hundreds of hours of research on finding the materials and equipment to relabel Nintendo Playchoice cartridges. I have found all of the above I believe, but at a huge price. I'm trying to gauge interest and feelings about me doing this. This was brought on by another members extreme interest in acquiring a copy of Ninja Gaiden 3 and others for similarly rare titles. My question is how much of a market is there and what would people be willing to spend on these games, they would be 100 % identical in both appearance and game play to the originals in fact if I didn't tell you they where relabels you would never know. This is very tentative and I'm not looking for anyone's money up front only the assurance if I'm able to do it I have customers to get my huge investment back. The biggest investment is having a programmer made for the security chip, I finally found two qualified and proven people willing to make these. But they get paid more an hour then anyone I ever heard of. So I think that's it, there are still alot of kinks to work out and it may not happen but If everyone is being truthful with me it is possible.

No

No one would know, that's the only way I will do it. If I wanted to be dishonest I could say they were real and no one would be able to say for sure one way or another. For some of the rare titles this is the same thing Nintendo did them selves. They would be 100% the same parts Nintendo used.

I personally think the dishonest thing about these is the part where no one would know they were bootlegs. I am all for reproductions, but making exact copies of rare titles kills the collectability of the games. Maybe I'm just too big or a NERD, but I disagree with the whole project. If you were to make a way to distinguish your reproes from original carts then that would be a different story. I could just see these things hitting eBay and causing some big issues for someone.

Agreed....

I don't think there's any good or honest reason to make a 100% "clone" of playchoice boards, other than to maximize profits on the misinformed. Don't do it. This type of behavior is prominent in the Nes repro box scene and really hurts hobby.

I would buy them if they are cheap enough and play like the real game. With that said I agree with making them different so there is no confusing them for the real deal. I don't know much about the parts is there any chance they make a different color board? Like capcom uses a blue board on bowling ( I think ) can these be on a different color board ? For me I don't care if it's new or repo as long as it plays the same I don't plan on selling them I plan on filling up my 2nd pc.

A side question while we are talking about making pc games can they make other nintendo games for the pc? I want a super tecmo bowl but from what I understand they never made one. Can they make one or other titles?

Agreed here too. IMO There would have to be an unmistakable quality to the boards to differentiate them from the originals, and it would have to be such a pain for a user to remove so as THEY don't use it for fraud. Something like having the Circuit board being a completely different color, like red or blue would work.

It's obvious to all, and A PITA to try and change.

EDIT: Apparently me and StingRay think alike. :)

Here is a site that shows a list of compatible NES games that you can convert your PlayChoice games into with a simple ROM swap on a compatible board...

Relabeling is a bad idea, you would end up with games that are now common as rare and tons of indistinguishable copies of rare games. Making new boards would be even more expensive and you would have to scrap NES carts for chips or maybe get some from bunnyboy.

now im not for doing something just for profit with a hobby like this, but wouldnt this be kindda like a 100 in 1 cart for the neo geo? you still have the die hards that want the real game but for the broke if i could pay $80 for a metal slug 4 in a box with all the trimmings or get a cart with a hundred games, now knowing its only in my garage for friends to use im not makings money but boy having a hundred games and then the space and the chance of it bending a pin if im in a hurry or just stupid. having the option is nice i guess, i never wanted a mame cabinet cuz i felt that was over kill but the 8 or 10 arcade games r just for friends and family. if i could get a 6 in one swticher or one board with all 6 games on it i wouldnt be upset, i understand the potential evil that could come out of this but just about everyone i have spoken to on this site respects the arcade hobby and tries not to save the machines but improve together and find cool modern updates. i guess im babling just thought i would give my opinion. i may be getting a nintendo vs dual machine and it would be cool to have the ability to get all games on it but right now i dont even know if its gonna happen or not yet.

AGREED. The copies should be marked.
