I imagine this needs a cap kit. Its turned red and there are horizontal/diagonal lines across the screen. Just got this cab a week or so ago and it was working fine but the brightness was already turned all the way and so was contrast. (I turned up the contrast to help register my light gun). So what does the public think? Cap kit? Or worse?

Try turning your brightness back down, to see if you can get rid of the 'retrace' lines, those white lines going sideways. If you can, you might get lucky and it's just a problem with the red pot on the neckboard, or the red transistor on the neckboard. If it's not that, your tube has a short in it. You might be able to zap the short off with a rejuvenator, or you could isolate the heater circuit to make the short go away by rewiring the neckboard (pretty tricky!)

Good luck!

last I checked those Nintendo monitors don't have contrast pots. you have to manually adjust the RGB.

the neckboards on those monitors due to their age commonly have cold solder issues with the color transistors. I would start by desoldering all 3 of them, scrape the excess flux off (should be tons), and optionally straighten the legs on them with pliers first before soldering them back in.

why you didn't bother to turn the brightness down yet is a mystery. turn the Brightness pot to about halfway, then turn the Screen pot on the flyback down until a black background is absolute black.. you don't want to see pixels in black screens. do final adjusting with the Brightness pot. there's a mid-way brightness adjustment as well, but I've never used it and I got 5 of these monitors to look perfect.

turn all 3 color bias pots down next. step them up about halfway, then start re-adding whichever colors are lacking. tints: purple = add green, yellow = add blue, cyan = add red. your primary main objective is to get pure white. further brightness adjustments may need to be made afterward. if you're getting smearing then you have the colors turned up too high.

hopefully that gets it. and you'll know how to do this on all your monitors.

invested in an archaic crt restorer. this thing is twice as old as i am but i have high hopes for its success.

still need some help with this - although i have a rejuv i dont have the adapter for my playchoice. how lame!
