Hey guys,

I just picked up a Nindendo PlayChoice 10 locally, but it needs some help.

The machine is a dual monitor version, and it plays. The upper monitor is dead (really dead, the fuses were blown and there are black scorches on the board.) There is no sound, but the speakers seem to work.

The lower monitor works fine, well... it does now after a lot of adjusting. I think the guy who had it before was trying to get the sound to work by twisting ever knob he could find back there! When I first saw the picture, I thought the tube was shot, totally washed out and bleeding colors. After 20 minutes of messing with it I got it nearly perfect, but what a pain!

I have disconnected the top monitor, just in case -- the game and lower monitor play OK without it, just no sound.

So here are the questions...

1. Can any 19" arcade monitor be used to repair a PC10, or do you have to use the Sanyo or Sharp RGB that I always hear mentioned for the PC10?

2. So correct me if I'm wrong on this, but the sound is probably not working because the top monitor is dead, and it needs the top monitor to complete the sound/speaker circuit. Is that right? If so, is there an easy way to bypass the upper monitor altogether, to get sound? Just seeking a temporary solution, I'm having a party Friday it would be nice to have this machine (mostly) working by then. Once I find a donor monitor I intend to get both up and running.

Thanks for any help,

unplug the sound input that goes to the top monitor and plug it in the bottom monitor. More likely than not though, the caps on the sound amp pcb on the monitor are bad.

Ok, I'll have a look and see if I can figure out where the sound input is. The pinout says Audio is on the larger of the 2 board connectors, parts side #20. Just follow this wire around to the monitors? Should it be a plug, and not a soldered connection?

Back to the first question, can I used any 19" standard res monitor in a PC10, or does it need the sanyo or sharp RGB I always hear talked about?

Thanks...

you can use any monitor if you use a color inverter. i use one from's mikes arcade as it also has the sound amp built in. which, if your monitor has been swapped out, could be your sound issue. also, the sound amp may be powered from the top monitor, i am not sure...

The top monitor is a Sharp, I think that's one that was normally supplied with the PC10. It is dead though, there looks to be board damage from something that blew.

Thanks for the tip on the color inverter/sound amp. I really appreciate it! That should make finding a suitable replacement much easier!
