Playchoice 10 single monitor issue when going back to the menu screen

So, I've had a playchoice 10 for a while now. It's a single monitor version that is in an old Donkey Kong/Super Mario machine. Overall everything is very nice on it. However, I've always had a bit of a strange issue:

When I go back to the menu screen to pick a new game, there would be many times the screen would be out of sync... I guess. It looks as if the horizontal hold is out of whack. It only happens when I go to the menu screen, and it happens about... oh... 35% of the time. No big deal, as when you pick a game, everything goes back to normal. Then back to the screen, and it's probably fine.

UNTIL LAST NIGHT.

Last night, I was playing Super Mario Bros in slot one. I went to the menu screen to change the game, and the screen went black. WTF? You could still hear the game I just (blind) picked, but the screen went black. I turned the machine off and then back on (quickly) and the screen was still black. However, leaving it off for about 5 or 6 seconds is enough for it to snap out of the issue.

This only ONLY happens, now, when sometimes going back to the menu screen. What do you suppose this is? The screen on the monitor does a sort of odd circle fade... but it's not losing power. To make matters stranger, it seems that this problem is only when I get out of a game of Mario. However, since it's so new of an issue, that may not be the case, but it's the only game that my machine does it to so far.

So... what is this?!

I want to make it perfectly clear, I never have either of the screen issues while in a game. Ever. It's only going to the menu that something gets messed up.

John,

Many of us Playchoice owners are having the exact same issue.

I think it is a gameboard issue, because there are too many of us Playchoice owners that are having the exact same problem for it to be a monitor issue. My sync problem happens when I turn the game on and can be cured with time (5 minutes or so) or by adjusting the H. FREQ on my G07 (if I slightly touch the pot it cures it). I can also stop the scrolling by entering the "game instructions" screen and let it sit for a minute or two. It seems like once the game gets "warmed up" the problem corrects itself.

As long as we keep it a current PC topic; I am sure there will be an answer to this problem one day.
