So I picked up a single PC-10 board and a full set of games at the Galloping Ghost swap meet in Brookfield a week or so ago and I finally got around to testing the board I purchased. Unfortunately it seems to bomb out when starting the carts. The menu works fine and the games show up but after I try to start them the sound pops and there's a pause and then the menu pops back up missing the game it tried to play. This also does the same for the attract as well as it cycles, fails and removes the games. I've swapped the Z80, checked both sides for damage/weird traces and haven't seen anything. All the carts on the board have been tested on my other boardset and work fine. Anyone shed some light on where there might be a failure point? I've seen a few posts with the exact same conditions occur and not get answered. Anyone repair these? I'm looking to eventually run 2 boards in my Playchoice with the switcher being developed and I'd like to use this one for hacked BIOS/NES games and the other with legitimate games.

Any help would be greatly appreciated and if local beer can and probably will be provided.

Thanks,
-M

Figured it out. Had a faulty RP2A03E. (NES CPU) Going to pull one out of a NES.

Well I realized since the menu worked that the z80 and ROMs were working fine so it had to be on the Nintendo side. The GPU was obviously working because it was displaying the menu. So I swapped out the NES CPU from my working board and everything fired up. I double checked by putting the bad CPU in my working board and the same issue arose. That night 2600 PM'd me and suggested that that might be the culprit.
Still need to Frankenstein a Nintendo but I'll post if the NES CPU has an issue but I doubt it.

Im having this same exact problem. Thanks in advance for this thread info. Im gonna go try this.

Is it hard to find another cpu.where can I get one. This whole time I was thinking my ppus were messing up. I thought it was wierd that two ppus I had last week working could both be messed up. I thought I bent the legs or something triggering this.

No just desolder a CPU from a NES.

Okay thank you so much. You just saved me a lot of money and grey hairs.

I put in a brand new CPU from mikesarcade.com and still having the same problem.anybody have any ideas?

Maybe its the chip from mikesarcade his end in an H. That can apparently make a big difference between it working in some boards and not others. I have heard that chip works with nintendo vs stuff too, but not all games or boards. Best bet (and i cant believe i am saying make a nintendo nes unusable) would be to hit the local goodwills or thrift stores and pick up a nintendo. Pull the chip and there you go.

Thanks Joe ill try that if I can find an nes here locally.

I tried switching out chips between my dual cab and the single. Its the ppu that's the problem but its weird because the menu boots up and games are listed it just resets back after you choose the game and that game title dissapears. I bent the pins on the ppu and that's when I started having this problem. I think maybe the ppu is not making a good connection with the board. I wish I could get this single cab up and running again.

Finally broke down and bought another ppu chip and it fixed the problem.
