Picked up this Nintendo cabinet for $120 off Kijiji. Cabinet is a Japanese plywood cabinet probably originaly a DK or Popeye. It was a nice solid cabinet right from the start, just needed some touch-up and re-paint. I decided to turn it into a Playchoice 10 for nostalgic reasons and because I will have 10 games to play :)

Touched up the entire cabinet using regular drywall compound, and not bondo. only reason I did that was because I'm a drywall taper so I had the material already.

After Touch-up:

rolled on 3 coats of Benjamin Moore Latex Semi-gloss paint using a 5mm roller. Also got the front piece back on the cab after I fixed it up.

After 3 Coats of Paint:

Painted the Black areas and coin door with Benjamin Moore Metal & Wood Oil based paint.

I wouldn't recommend this paint for anybody else looking to paint the black areas on their cabs. it's ridiculously shiny and not as easy to clean up after you're done as a latex paint is.

I'm happy with it though.

Yes you got me. I did just paint over the monitor bolts. but when the Playchoice Side art comes in the mail the bolts will be removed and re-painted Black separately.

They are supposed to be silver. Just clean the paint off with a wire wheel. You'll still have a weird paint edge where the bolt heads met your paint though, so I am not sure how that's gonna look. It looks like you masked the black/blue areas a little too tight and now you have a white 'negative' line. The only sure way to prevent that (or color bleeds) is to remove the kick plate and paint it separately. I would at least remask the inner corner a little further out and get a sharper line. Are you using a Nap roller? Brush?

Thanks for letting me know the bolts are supposed to be silver. When I got the cab it was all painted black. I should of removed the bolts before painting but I wasn't expecting to find playchoice-10 side art.

the white you see in the inner corner between the black and blue is actually primer that is inside the crack between the two pieces of wood. no way of getting to it without bleeding into the other color. unless I removed the whole front to paint it separate. In person you really can't see it and it does look like a nice line. It does not look at all how it looks in the closeup pic with the digital camera lol

I cut the corners by hand with a paint brush. the rest is rolled with a 5mm roller.

Phetishboy called me on the bolts so I couldn't sleep tonight unless I fixed the problem.

Bolts removed and sanded the paint off. bolts are back to silver and reversed on the inside of the cab to hold the monitor in place while i touch-up the damage it caused to the paint from removing. Gonna have to prime and re-paint both sides now. but atleast I fix it now before the side art arrives.

Big thanks to Mike Boss for stopping by today and bringing me a Insert Coin Sticker :)

Your more than welcome. I very much appreciate your generosity, as I said in the feedback I got the better end of that deal !

Saw this cabinet in person, it looks good! Really good job, looking forward to taking a look @ the final product.

Funny thing....I haven't even added my coin sticker yet.
But I think I will today, I polished the marquee. It looks good !

Thanks again

Update:

1. New cam Locks for coin door and Back door
2. Playchoice-10 Marquee bought off NotreCaine doesn't fit :(
It's 3/4" too short so I will have to buy a regular "Playchoice" Marquee
3. Top Marquee Holder bought off DJ DNS painted and installed.
4. Re-painted the two sides and I now have nice silver bolts

Looking good, looking good!
Sh*ty about the marquee, I guess noway to make use of it ?
That sucks..............
Otherwise it's looking nice, making some good progress on the machine.
Did you pick up the locks locally ?
Did you polish up the bolts with a wire brush ?
Did you try using clear coat on them once finished ?
