Playchoice 10 - Hard coating on sides / cracked side

Hey Guys,

I got a PC10 Single monitor in good, but rough shape.

From what I can tell, someone tried to move the cabinet and grabbed by the top of the cab by the marquee. They pulled and pulled apart the side of the cab, there is a 1/4 gap from the side to the marquee. They then, in their wisdom decided to screw it back together... wrong...using whatever size wood and sheetrock screws :-(

This caused the hard coating on the sides to ultimately crack. It is unfortunate since the sideart on the one side is PERFECT..

I plan to fill the holes with bondo, repair their repair with glue and some small blocks...

How do I finish the sides? I don't know if I want to paint it since the "glossyness" isn't stock.. Can I buy this plastic and cut it to size? Is this Laminite?

Thanks in advance,

Matt

Post a pic. Is the cab blue, orange, black?

Black - Seems 100% original PC10 single monitor.

Im at work this moment unfortunately, but will definately post pics when I get out.

(I have been anxious to source parts so this was on my hitlist of questions to ask.)

I have attached a cruddy pic from the ebay listing. You can even see the "separation" on the left of the marquee. I'll take up close pics of the damage.

Thanks!

Cool. The original SM PC-10 cabs were built with a thin laminate or melamine coated particle board. I just restored one of these and redid the entire cabinet in Happ's Pica Vinyl. The finish is FLAWLESS:

When I redid my R-Type, which is also the same cabinet, and I wanted to retain the original side art, I fixed all the dings, broken corners and scratches with bondo, masked the side art completely off and rolled oil-based Rustoleum Satin Black over the whole cab. (any bondoing I did got hit with a light coat of spray primer first) 2 coats of black, 180 sanding block before and between the coats. It turned out almost as nice:

Awesome Pics!

Mine is the particle board, not plywood cab.

Did you have to pick off all of the laminate before reapplying or did you put the vinyl right over?? At this rate, by the time I source all the parts for the k7000a monitor.. I should be able to do the woodwork and at least make it look pretty. The cab itself is sound. (i managed to scuff the cp moving it though :-( )

Yeah, I said they're made from particle board. There were no cabs in this style made from plywood. Vinyl right over it, after you have the surface clean flat and uniform. I also painted the whole cab an even satin black with a sprayer before installing the vinyl.
