I got my new Bally Playboy up and running but after I insert a coin and it makes the sound, it won't start a game when I press the start button. What could be wrong with it? The credit display is out, but I don't see how that would affect it. It makes the noise every time a coin is inserted :(

what kind of playboy is it???

Not trying to be a ass....ive done it before...is there a pinball in the machine????

Or did you check the start swich inside the game to make sure it was clean and good???

Does the ball through think theres never a ball in the game???

Also, when I add a quarter, it gives me like 13 credits even though I have the dip switches to add only one credit.

The credit's also do not show up on the credit display, the dip switch for that is also on.

I don't know if that has anything to do with my game not starting. But it's really frustrating. Once I get it to start a game I'm all ready to start cosmetics. :( help :(

Anyone? It's really frustrating knowing the thing is working this much :(

And the coin thing is weird too but right now I just want it to start a new game.

I already checked all the switches. They all work properly. The only closed switch is the ball trough swich. I fixed the credits, but it still won't start a game.

Just trying to understand more.... When you press the start switch in test mode, it shows up as working properly? If so, what does the solenoid test show? Do you have 43 volts on both sides of the coil that launches the ball into the lane?

Did you actually verify the ball though switch without the ball in there and triggering a few times. Also check and make sure it isn't stuck in tilt. Clean the contact for the ball though just to make sure. Check the entire path of that switch.

The game is not stuck in tilt.

The ball through switch is verified, I just checked it via the switch test.

The start button DOES NOT work in the switch test, even if I manually jump the two wires, it will not register on the switch test, neither do the flipper buttons.

Just traced the wires back to the MPU. I desoldered them from the switch and twisted them together. I then checked the resistance with a multimeter at the MPU and the wires are good. It's making a connection, but it won't register on the diagnostic test. What would cause that?

Woohoo! I've made progress. As I said, the wires tested fine at the MPU. Each of the wires goes through a resistor right after it's connected to the board. I took a small wire and just jumped the two wires on the outer end of the resistors and the game started up! So...what on earth would cause that?

Fixed it :p No need to fret haha. After putting the multimeter on basically everything in that circuit, turns out one of the two pins in the connector was bad. I yanked it out and put it back in and it worked. Anyone know where I can buy a replacement connector of that style?

Late to the party but that was my guess too :p

Either that or one of the resistors was open.

I can't tell you how many switch problems I've had with Bally games that were the result of bad connectors.
