playboy pinball value

Eh, well it's a moot point now. There was a local pin that popped up non-working fro $250. I was going to look at it, and put in an offer if it was at least decent and maybe a simple fix, then sell it.

The playfield was pretty bad - par for this machine. CPU had bad acid damage along bottom edge - probably unrepairable.

I am probably going to be making this my first paid arcade gig though. I might be fixing the game and doing a basic cleanup for the guy. I'm also going to fix some hum bar on the Ms. Pac.

So... why are you not buying it? Did he decide to not sell or something?

Because I'd rather not tie funds up into it, and be forced to sell high. He wanted $250, and I could have probably talked it down to $150.

I can't sell my pin for what I have in it, and don't want 2 pins in the same boat.

Oh, and the little fact that my wife would kick my ass if I bought a PLAYBOY pin. She loves the hobby and all the games, but there is a line that is in my best interests not to cross.

However, me bringing the game in for a few weeks to fix up and get paid...well she would be cool with that.

My wife has become quite happy with my taking in games, shopping them out, and reselling them. It's turning us a good profit in most cases (some are near break even), and it's giving us a steady flow of new games to play. The only big downside I'm seeing is that I'm buying local and shipping most of my restorations out of state. That kind of sucks because even though I'm just one guy, I'm still slowly chipping away at the local source of games.

You could part out the Playboy for well over $150 but I respect your restraint.

FWIW: Playboy is in a whole different class than Charlies Angels as far as resale is concerned.

Yes it is, but pins just aren't moving around here. Unless I did an amazing restore, I would be lucky to get my money back out of it - much less make any real fundage for all the work put in. I'd rather do a quick shop job and make $100 straight up. It will give me valuable experience with Bally stuff too.

I do buy/sell vids because:
1. I can get them cheap
2. There are only a few inexpensive components to fix usually
3. I can make a killing on crappy dynamo cab conversions as multigames.

The effort/reward ratio is way higher on vids.

Are you charging the guy a flat rate or hourly? Based on what you said I wouldn't be surprised to see quite a few hours go into the pinball.

I'm only doing a very basic cleaning/waxing/adjusting of the playfield. No touch-ups, clearcoating, or anything. He just wants the game running. I doubt I'll even take off the posts. I estimated that it will take me 10 hours or less. If anything time consuming and/or broken pops up that absolutely needs additional attention, I will let him know and he is cool with that.

I'm not putting in near the detail work I did on my pin.
