I'm looking for a certain picture of Play Land arcade in (what I believe was...) New York City. The picture shows Space Invaders cabinets which had been mounted upside down (and still operational) in the display windows as "art". This picture was in an early 80s video game magazine (Electronic Games, Vidiot, Electronic Fun, etc) but I'm not sure which one.

I saw this very picture online a few years ago, but now that I want to show it somebody, I can find it.

I've searched Google images, and I found much older pictures of the same PlayLand (from the 50s and 60s), and a fascinating collection of photos of a derelict PlayLand from Coney Island, but that's not the right location.

Can anyone post a link to the picture I'm speaking of?
Much thanks,

This just crossed my mind again... is anybody familiar with the arcade with Space Invaders cabinets mounted upside down in the front display windows?

I wish I could find the original magazine from the early '80s that showed the picture of this place...

It was called Space Station, in Penn Station.

I saw pics online a couple months ago, though I don't recall where. timeouttunnel.com expired a couple weeks ago, so if they were up there, archive.org might be the best bet to find them.

I thought STATION*BREAK was the [only] arcade inside Penn Station.

There's a picture of it in this thread:

Is this what you mean?

Naw, Station Break is the arcade in Penn Station that everybody remembers. Space Station had a couple locations I think, one being in Penn Station, which surely closed long before SB did.

Space Station in Penn Station had a couple SI machines hanging upside-down in the window, still turned on.

THAT'S THE PICTURE!!!! AWESOME!!! :D

Yeah, I botched the name of the arcade, but those upside down SI cabs stuck with me for years. Thanks so much for posting it!!!

Hard to tell, but it looks like the monitors in the Invaders cabs have been remounted without the silvered mirror set up, so as to be easily viewed by passersby.

Reminds me that in the late 90s, I saw a SI in a game warehouse in MD that had its monitor remounted without the mirror... it was a very professional job. I wonder if that machine could have been one of these upside down machines?

Thanks for the great memory!
