There shouldn't be any control discrepancies, should there? I put my PP in my EA to test, and the video comes up fine, the game credits up, but when I hit the left jump, the scene changes from on the ship to swimming with the sharks. If I hit it 2 more times, it moves me to the end of the game, girl is saved I start getting kisses. Now the right jump button operates the knife, and the right knife button jumps. I can't remember what the left knife button does, maybe nothing. Is this normal? The 'send me to the end of the game to kiss the chick' feature seems rather strange, no?
 
Flip DipSwitch A, position 3 in the other direction. This should clear this 'frame advance' feature.

Jungle King did not use this switch.

Pirate Pete was a buggy game back in the day. I recall that pressing the start button in gameplay would kill you.

Sometimes you would fall/get killed for no reason. It's no wonder they showed up only briefly.

Ahhh, then this makes some sense. I was hoping there was a reason for the frame advance, or this game would cease being a keeper in about 4 seconds.
 
Phet, it'll be cool if you could post some video of the game when you get it working. would love to see it working and the sounds.
