With recent news that pinrepair.com was going into the pay for info format, I have created a new website, PinWiki.com, designed to give a new way to access and contribute repair info. In normal wiki format, PinWiki, is going to officially launch at 9pm EST. I need everyone to start contributing their info to the wiki so it can grow quickly and be a great resource. I promise I will never turn this into a pay for information service, nor will I take credit for your own information. I also have included a forum for all the pinheads to discuss pinball. Again, I ask you contribute any knowledge you have to the wiki so that PinWiki can become a good resource for all.

Edit: Forget to mention but I am looking for a moderator or two for both the wiki and forums, please let me know if your interested.

isnt that supposedly what we are using RIGHT NOW ?

Yeah cause it's so fun to dig through random posts, with random explanations of problems AND solutions rather than have something definitive to look at...

That's like saying "Why bother making the Haynes Auto Repair manuals?" on a car enthusiast forum...

What if we posted links to threads with relevant info? Would it be acceptable to transfer pics and text directly from this site?

I'd prefer that most info is duplicated in some form or another, but fornthe sake of building up data, it can start that way, and be categorized as needing to be redone later

I hate to rain on your parade - but:

http://pinwiki.org/wiki/Main_Page

You're not, it only offers game info...and not many titles really. 36 SS/DMDs(Primarily) only to be precise...

As for repair/tech info? Guess where it links to...I'll give you ONE guess. ;)

Doesn't look to have been updated in awhile, nor is it maintained...the About page is chock full of spam links.

Well, fooey, I still like my site better, so anyone who wants to contribute, I'm shamelessly promoting right now, lol. Even if you don't currently have anything to contribute, sign up and help edit poor spelling, and start forums discussions! Let's take this as an opportunity to start a new community!

Im with ya, I will start adding info as I come up with it and figure out how to do it! lol

Currently adding a templates format to all repair pages, some things won't apply but it is easy to delete. Best page anyone can add info to is the beginners notes.

Ok, what about info that was copied and pasted from pin repair? is that fair game?

I will allow it for now as long as any info grabbed from there is clearly marked as from there. I don't want copyright issues, and if something arises i want to be able to delete it easily.

Another easy thing that can be done is update each repair guide with game lists. Reference system 3 - 7 for the format and then use the advanced search on ipdb to get the game names.
EDIT: to clarify, do not copy his information, but use it as a guide to write new articles for pinwiki.com. I do not want duplicated text or images, but I do want scratch written articles that can contain similar ideas.

Well, it isn't 100% functional, but it's good to go to add info. The 2 issues I need to resolve are with images and with the article count. You can upload pictures if you want a d link them into any page but it will currently come up with an error to view them. Just ignore it and i'll fix it tomorrow. The page counter says only 2 pages of content exist which I know is false. I'm dead for the night after rushing a site together in 1 day. If you want, you all can surprise me with content if you want ;) I won't be mad to wake up to filled pages. Lol just kidding i don't want to burn anyone out.

P.S. If someone could please post on RGP, that would be wonderful.

See the RGP thread:

http://groups.google.com/group/rec....read/thread/4ad047d6b20837f8/101d807381c5fdee

Note that there are several veteran RGP members, including several of the folks who have submitted contact to the www.pinrepair.com site in the past, are already organizing and discussing the creation of a replacement resource. Deep talent pool there to pull from, so you may want to try working with them instead.

Modessitt - see also: http://forums.arcade-museum.com/showthread.php?t=180802

You can pull up the index page, but try drilling down into specific content, and you'll get the pay wall.

Note that they've changed what comes up; the current/new message just states that the site is "not currently available"; the links to the PPM site where you are encouraged to purchase a DVD of the site contents for $10 are no longer present.
