Ok, So I haven't played in a while, but as I recall the visor once ready to open, opens and stays that way.

Mine opens, waits, then cycles closed, and then open again.

The two switches appear to check out ok in diags. Is this normal, or should I start diggin into it?

I think you have a limited opportunity to get the first one in his eye. It will shut if you don't. Once you get the first one in, the visor stays open for the second, I believe.

I've seen this many times on Pinbots during the first open. It opens, then closes and opens again. I always thought it was normal, but perhaps your ball isn't hitting anything for a few, and the game does a quick cycle to try to find the ball?

Pinbot eyes

If you can hit the straight colored lines the Visor opens up stays up intell both balls are locked in Eyes.

Mi-Ball starts and lock 1 ball in the eyes and then shoot for the Jackpot Blue Ramp.It will kick the ball out of the Eyes after it opens and closes. Just put it back in there !

LOL Sorry i'm a pro at this i've owned mine since 1994

No the wait time before it closes and re-opens is a few seconds. It takes longer for it to start checking for a lost ball.

I couldn't remember what it was supposed to do.

Pinbot eyes

I just told you what it *should do*

If the ball stuck in the eyes it will not close and open.

You could have a bad Eyes lock switch.

Sorry got interupted during my post, and didn't finish writing until you had already submitted yours.

So it seems my visor has a problem. It opens, closes, opens then stays open waiting for the balls.

Pinbot Visor

Yes the Visor should stay opened after all the colors have been hit or the skill shot has been hit .

intell both ball are locked into the eyes.

Now the question is what to do about it not staying open.

The switches are making continuity I've hooked up a DMM to the switch, and had the self test cycle the visor motor, bot switches are working when the cam hits them. So it must be an intermident signal loss somewhere in the wire harness, or connectors..

But why would it stop and stay open on the second cycle if it wasn't seeing the switch in the first place?

Maybe I'm not describing the problem cleary.

1-Light all the chest lights
2-Visor Opens for 1-2 secs
3-Visor Closes
4-Visor Opens
5-Visor stays open waiting for balls
6-Visor get's balls
7-Visor drops balls
8-If in a short period of time you get one ball in it stays
9-Now solar ramp time
10-Will drop ball
11-Will close visor

I'm having an issue with #3

I found this video with comment. While it appears that his doesn't close completely, mine does.

I have checked the limit switches, and the cam glides over them either way it rotates. It's not hitting then reversing. But the video is pretty much what mine is doing.

Here is the comment on the fix. No help though, as mine is not doing this.

Your cam limit switches are bent. The motor can run in forward or reverse when the game turns it on. If the motor runs forward, the cam runs over the switches just fine. If the motor runs in reverse, the cam will catch on the switch, get caught up and jams the motor. When the motor gets stuck, it reverses and the visor will open or close when it is not supposed to, as seen here. Take the motor plate off and bend the limit switches back so the cam can run over them in reverse.

Fixed

Aha.. I didn't see them before, but there are diodes inline with the wires going to the switches. They are covered in plastic tubing. Anyways, I removed them, and checked them on the curve tracer. I one that was flaking out on me. replaced the diode, and all is good.

@simpsons99: Dood! The problem isn't that the visor stays open. Watch the video. It opens, <emphasis>immediately closes</emphasis>, and then finally opens again and stays open. Note the empahsis part. That part should not be happening. The visor should open and stay open (***not*** immediately close, and then reopen) until both balls are locked in the eyeslots.

@Talon2000: Mine has the same problem so I'm interested in your solution. Will check these diodes you speak of
