Folks, I finally have my pinbot up and running and now I would like some input.
Here are the upgrades that I am planning on getting.

Some are to upgrade and some to fix problems.

**********************************************************************************************************************
1st problem is Display problems.... only the p1 display is working.
the other 4 are dead. From a little bit of testing it looks like it is the display's that are bad.

Option 1.... I could get an replacement for p2 (7-digit alpha-numeric display) and a replacement for match/credit
(4-digit numeric display) and then hold off on p3 and p4 for a wile until I have more funds later this year.
my thinking here is the game should still play 100% up to 2 players...

Option 2 ....for the Display deal is to man up and get the PinScore PS-10877-P System (complete display system) for $199

**********************************************************************************************************************
2nd problem is a sound / voice problem. It seems like the sounds and music work fine but all of the voice / speach sounds are 5 x lower in volume. From what I can tell and have read about this system 11a + D-11298 soundboard .....I think the problem is somewhere in the sound board itself. That being said I was thinking of these options....

Option 1 ....I could get a new tested sound board (about $115) upside to this would be to have a 2nd one to mess with.

Option 2 ....I could send this one off to be tested / repaired (about $65) downside to this is 2 weeks or more of no sound at all).

Option 3 ....is someone could give me some ideas on what to check / replace if needed on the sound board I have and I amy get lucky fixing it myself. (best for my pocketbook if it works out ) :)

**********************************************************************************************************************
3rd problem is just an upgrade question. I was thinking up upgrading the Speakers @ some point soon.

My thought was to order the (SW-11V sub woofer kit) about $75 and then come up replacement back box speakers on my own if needed.

**********************************************************************************************************************

Does anyone have a better - cheaper option for anything I have called out above ?

This project has ben quite the pain the the butt / pocketbook so far. Any an all help would be great.

Thanks,

...just my opinion...I like the look of the plasma gas displays waaay better than the LED replacements (but, replacing four pieces of display glass IS expensive.....though, you'd probably never have to replace them again).

Sound issue.....I'm not for sure on Pinbot...so don't hold me to this.....I know on a lot of the Williams pinballs with sound and speech....there's a separate "mixing" pot on the sound or speech board. It basically mixes the two channels in and out of each other. These pots can (and do) go bad. Check your sound/speech board, and see if there's a pot on it.

I would say go with the Pin Leds if your replaces the 3 or more displays . Your spending all most the same money. These are pretty much plug and play. Others are not!

It does have a pot on the sound board. I did try adjusting it but it did not do anything. The next chance I get I will do some more reading and also try to find a way to test it.

Thanks,

I would totally save up the cash and get the pinscore displays. That's my plan as well.

Thanks,

Can anyone else comfirm or shoot down the idea that the R15 100k pot on the D-11298 soundboard should mix the volume of the sound / voice?

Thanks again,

Does the pot do anything when you turn it? It should control something. I tried looking up a schematic online....it was "difficult" to read. I'll see if I can find my hard copy.

Thanks for the heads up at marco's. I actually googled it and looked again right after I posted that, and found it there too (hence why I edited my post). They must have been out of stock or someting last time I looked there.

No. It seems to make no change in music or voice volume and it also checks out to be good with my VOM meter..... bummer......! looks like a
I may have to send it in for repair.

Another question? If I go with the normal "plasma gas displays" how hard is it to install them if I go with just the glass.... it looks like I can save about $40 on part one of my display plan (p2 and match replacement) if I get just the glass and solder them onto the boards myself. I guess I can try to prep the old display boards and see how hard it is to get them ready for the new glass... That should be the hardest part correct?

I think in the end it will look better with BOP on the left and Sorcerer on the right to all have the same type "plasma" displays.

On the sound problem front....Would anyone be willing to snap a picture of the upper left area of the CPU board and the sound board area so I can make sure that things are connect correctly?

Does anyone know of any good high traffic PIN message boards?

Thanks again,

I got an email last night from Rob @ http://lockwhenlit.com/default.aspx
and he is going to take a look at the CPU - Soundboard combo and get
it sorted out for me. (He fixed the CPU board for me in the first
place.)

I wanted to thank everyone again for all of the help. I have some
other things I can work on until the boards come back.

Excellent! Rob is a nice guy, he repaired my Space Shuttle boardset and did an excellent job.
