Pinballpcb vs Rottendog replacement boards

O/K, I dont if if this is one of the forbidden topics and I dont want to step on anyone's toes or start a slinging contest. My Gorgar board has been repaired several times it looks like and I am having board issues. I have been looking at the Pinballpcb and Rottendog boards and would like to know if one is "better" than the other. I know the Pinballpcb board is still a 2 piece board with a new connector and Rottendog is a 1 piece combo. I have a Rottendog replacement power supply and it works fine. Are there any issues I should consider either way?

I can only speak for rottendog as that is the one I purchased. I purchased WMS 3-6 combo CPU/Driver Board from Rottendog when they first came out. I didn't use it until months (almost a year) later (bought a project Alien poker). I installed and it worked fine for a few days. I was having trouble with some switches and something on the Switch Matrix blew. I emailed Jim at Rottendog about it. He asked me to send in my board for him to fix with a description of what was wrong ( He told me he would have sent me a new one back but was out of stock). I sent him the board and he called me a few days after he recieved it that it was fixed and was sending it back. I recieved the board and installed it and has never been a problem since. I really appreciated the service Jim did and the turn around time was fast. I was glad I bought my board from him. I also have a DMD board in my TAF that was burnt to **** when I bought it. Their products are good and realiable IMHO.

I have 4 Rottendog boards that I use in my TZ, STTNG, DR WHO, and WH2O.

The original driver boards seem so sensitivento the voltage in my house; I was constantly replacing BR2, etc

Since installing Rottendogs boards, I've had zero problems. So, if you want something that "just works", I can definitely recommend them.

I do appreciate all the vendors who support our hobby, so I hope people will share good stories about pinballpcb too.
 
Rottendog is awesome. I would recommend to anyone. With that being said I dont know if they are back in business yet because they were hit by the tornadoes in the south.

I had to buy a board from someone else and it cost $150 more then the Rottendog board.

They are. Jim and Lynda were at Allentown.

I discovered an issue with the Rottendog MPU and System 11 games (Pinbot, and it affects one other game). They refunded my money because it couldn't be rectified, but a revision of their board is coming. Even though their MPU didn't work out for me now and I bought a refurb original MPU for my Pinbot, they were really cool to deal with and did everything they could to make it right.

I'll definitely snag their revised board to have as a spare/test board.

Do a side by side comparison.
One of them uses thicker boards than the other - it costs more to go with 50% thicker boards.
One of them uses IC sockets (type undefined) on 'common failure components', the other maker uses machine pin sockets on -all- IC's.
One of them includes added diagnostics on the board.
Search RGP for problem reports from either.
One of them advertises as 'the lowest cost provider'. When there is a significant cost difference, there is normally a reason.

The main thing I can think of is not as much board flexing particulary when combining the CPU & driver boards.
Thicker boards also have better thermal dissipation characteristics...but not enough to consider.

I do know going thicker than 062 costs quite abit more...just not sure that the benefits would be worth it, though.
