Pinball Magic Clips

Does that Crystal Ball use the Rainbow LED?

I saw these Rainbow LEDs #44s on Marco Specialties. Thought they looked interesting so I ordered two to try out. They cycle through 4 or 5 different colors.

It's an actual function of the game, so I doubt it. You have to hit targets that match the current color of the globe IIRC. This game also predates LED bulbs.

Right on.

There's a stem that hangs down from the bottom of the crystal ball, and around that stem are six #555 bulbs -- each with a different color condom on. And even though only one bulb at a time is fired up, it produces quite a bright color in the crystal ball. Pretty slick design, that.

Now that I have my Pinball Magic up to 100% (minus a bulb or two and some squeaky toy mechanisms), I thought I'd make a couple videos.

Here's a clip of the gameplay:

And here's a little feature on the toys:

I am LOVING this machine! ;)

At least you know shooting the loop is better than shooting the skill shot at the start of the game. :) Jeez, what were they thinking.

If you work on your drop catches and bounce passes, you will totally rule this game.

Very fun pin. Fast, cool toys, and I think capcom's first effort?

I think that was an okay move on part of the design. The tricks are set up to get progressively harder, so making the first one easy seems alright. And it's not always guaranteed that you'll make the loop when launching the ball. There have been several times when I've seen the ball not make it around the loop after dropping out of the wireframe.

Yep, their first pin, which makes the machine all the more impressive. They really did their homework.

It's too bad they got into the industry when things were on the decline and ended up going out of business. I would have loved to see what types of machines they would have ended up producing. Or at the very least, I wish they could have done well enough to have warranted big runs of Big Bang Bar and Kingpin.

It's not that it's easy is the problem, it's that going for that first loop shot is worth double what the skill shot is worth and it's overall easier! And it advances you to the next challenge. They should have just made it so the challenges weren't active until the ball hit a switch. But it's a minor thing, and kind of evidence of their first effort.

I've heard from the guy who runs lucky ju ju that they have a Capcom Airborne that they're trying to get in shape.
