I have been getting more and more into looking at the subtleties of art in games, especially pinball machines.

The sheer amount of artwork on playfields is just staggering to me, and so many little hidden things the designers add.

I like some cool little things they do with the lights too. Like on Taxi.....the traffic light in the art on the backglass has lights behind it. Instead of just flashing randomly, it cycles like an actual traffic light. To me, that is a cool little attention to detail.

Anything that you find that sticks out in your mind?

I had one a few months back, called "Super Score", Gottlieb made it in 1967. Art Stenholm did the artwork on it. Look close at the backglass. This is a "Super Duo", which is an italian version of the same game, I cou'dnt find a big pic of super score. The one under is the actual Super Score one.

first of all, the girls are playing the exact game YOU're playing, "super score". So the playfield layout is reproduced on the backglass. Also, to the left, there's another Super Score being played by somebody on the other row. If you look really close, you can see the girls on the backglass of the super Score on the left row.

On the playfield of the game the girls are playing, are some scores on the playfield... when you lit up the scores on your playfield, they also lit up on the backglass... on the girl's playfield.

Lots of little touches too, like for instance if you look close at one of the pinball machines on the left, "TILT" lights up on the side of the backbox when you tilt the game, etc.

Some of these EM's were amazing.

This is cool. I find new stuff in art just about every time I look at a machine. It's great to find new things, either obvoius, or hidden.

I thank the designers and artists for their awesome work!

I love all of the subtleties in Capcom's BreakShot...

The backglass has the "hall of mirrors" effect with a pinball that has a smaller version of the BreakShot backglass in it... Very cool touch.

The backglass also shows a drawing of an animation that happens in the DMD, with the indication of the ball hitting the girls and the moose, etc.

You can't see it very well in this pic, but the artwork continues into the DMD surround, which I also find a very nice touch.

Took me 6 months to notice the slapstick humor here.
That one clown is smacking the animated clown on the rear to trigger him to hit the ball.
the animation pops the ball to designate a free ball won.

Have you found Godzilla in that backglass? :)
