I bought a used Prism card back in July. Today was the first time I
had to try it out. Connected the daughter card, disabled code update,
swapped playfirlds, powered up and......nothing.

Computer fans run, amber LED on prism card does light up, but nothing
boots. Nothing on screen whatsoever.

Anywhere to even start to troubleshoot this? I am not upset at the
seller, he advertised it used, untested (no way to test it out, does
not have a Pin2K). Just wondering where to go from here. It seems like
the old (working) Prism card is "tighter" in the slot than the one I
just bought, but not sure why.

Here's some pictures. The working Prism card is in the bottom of the
photo, the non-working one is at the top in the pictures:

Thanks in advance,

The image links say the image has been removed or deleted.

Have you checked to see if any information here will help: http://www.pinrepair.com/pin2000/index.htm ?

First thing I would check is to make sure the card is seating well and that no pins on the card are shorting out. You did note the card appeared looser than the working one.

Pinball 2000

Take the computer box out of the PIN and take the PRISM card out.

Connect the box to power and a VGA monitor, the computer should give you some output on the screen.

You MUST have the PRISM card removed to do this as it boots the game code and changes the output to 15hrz.

IF you get stuff on the screen, then the PC Board is working, if not.... you have a issue with the computer board.

A lot of times the capacitors go bad around the CPU. I bought a dead board from eBay that had 4 bad caps. I replaced them, now I have a good spare board.

Thank you, I corrected the photo links. I did check the pinball repair guide, but I will have to re-read it.

The computer itself is working. I do have a working Prism board and that boots up correctly, but I appreciate the in depth explanation and input. I had bought the spare Prism to ease in swapping from RFM to Star Wars without having to re-flash the code each time. Not a huge deal, just would have made the process easier :)

I will re-visit the pinball repair guides, but if anyone else has any ideas, I'm open to them!
