Having some problems with my pin reset motor on my United Astro shuffle bowler. It was working well but intermittently for the past year or so all the pins would reset and freak out randomly, usually not when resetting. So tonight the kids are playing and the pins will not reset and the pins were freaking out a lot worse than normal. I checked the pin reset motor and the actuator in the motor doesn't stay engaged long enough for the pins to reset and the motor keeps running trying to reset them. I understand there is a spring at the end of the actuator to disengage it from the gears but it is missing. If I manually keep it engaged until the pins reset it will disengage with no problem, so I don't think the spring is the problem. Any suggestions? thanks in advance

My opinion if you have cleaned your step units, score motor, and pin set motor. Meaning all of these were torn down, are oil free, and move freely. Try to find the spring. They're may also be a very thin washer. Contact Pinball Resource. Research the part numbers ahead of time if possible.

My opinion if you've not cleaned this game mechanically it will never work consistently unless you do so. For me it's a part of the hobby that I love. If you do choose to tear this down please take pictures along the way to help with the rebuild once cleaned.

It's easy to see why thousands upon thousands of technicians existed to service this equipment. It's labor intensive.

Good luck with your repair.
