i order 1 pretty easy to install.had a minor issue with it.tom responed super fast and i fixed the problem.i just like to say thanks for the help and the A1 product.if you want his type no battery need for menory heres his web page.http://www.pin-logic.com/index.shtml he also has them for ballys.if your looking for a standerd replacement. i was told marco and bob roberts sell them!

I've been considering one of these for my Pinbot. Anybody have any opinions of this or suggestions of a compariable product to eliminate the batteries?

You know what? I was debating long and hard about going 5101 ram replacement or just AA holder with a blocking diode and here's what I came to...

5101 ram replacement is gonna let you save your scores for (in theory) eternity, where AAs are gonna need to be replaced in a few months down the road, and if they're not replaced you're gonna lose your scores and settings. On my particular machine, I set all the settings with jumpers, so no settings would be lost, and as for high scores... well... by the time the batteries die (2-3 months?), I'm not gonna give a rat's ass about my score. There's the memory capacitors, but I've heard they're about as reliable as having no battery on the board at all.

If you really care about your score on that machine, spend the 25-30 bucks on the 5101 replacement.

If you just CBA (can't be assed) about your high scores from a few months back, and you're not gonna lose settings, leave out the battery, or put in a AA pack with diode for short term memory. You can still have some friendly competition with some friends while having some beers, and let it reset for next time. Throw a pen and paper in the coin box, and jot down the score, for the next time you got the guys over for beers.

Pinbot uses a battery backed 6116, not a 5101... simtek should drop right in, if the 6116 is socketed.

His 5101 adapters are made for -35 and sys3-7 only, IIRC.

Mine (can) work on gottliebs, etc too, but I normally just jumper over the extra enable circuity, since most people only use them for bally pins.
