So I started the thing up for the first time last night. According to the pinrepair guide the startup tones are as follows:

Power-on Tone(s).
When the system 11 games boots, it produces power-on tone(s). Here is the breakdown of the tone(s):

* No Sound: sound/speech board is not operating, or a failure is affecting the sound circuitry (broken or disconnected cable, dead amplifier, bad speaker).
* One Tone: sound/speech system OK.
* Two Tones: sound/speech RAM problem.
* Three Tones: U4 problem.
* Four Tones: U19 problem.
* Five Tones: U20 problem (System 11C).

My question is....I get five twangy noises in a row (rubber bandish sounding) followed by a single beep. I'm thinking that's ok right? What are the 5 twangy noises telling me? Is there a better name for that sound? :)

I get one boing tone when it first powers on

and then it will flash "press enter for report" or something like that with 5 bings

Ours produces one "bong" as if all is okay. If there's a switch issue, the credit knocker will fire 8 times with a display message (but you can turn the knocker off).

No idea what the twangy noises would be. Is it possibel to get a video of the noise you're describing?

Chris

Last night the 8 knocks went off and it spooked me. The 20K vortex ramp had not been hit over so many games. Took a few games and I got it. Mine needs some adjustment.

Sure it's possible...here you go!

Looks like the top diaplays are out, so you cant see what it's trying to tell you. The noise you are hearing is NORMALLY acssociated with an ADJUST FAILURE, FACTORY SETTINGS RESTORED; which would explain why you have to go through the adjustments to boot the machine.

Check the batteries, as these are the most commin source for an Adjust failure. Withere that ot the batteryu holder may be corroded and the 'juice' is not getting to the proper spot on the board. Basically the machine lost the memory settings when it was powered off.

I'd guess that if the displays were working, that's what you'd see on the machine. I cant think of another way to describe that noise either, LOL. The "bong" at the end is correct, the boards should be good.

That's my guess :)

Whoa. Mine does your last tone when I turn it on. Only that tone. When I get the "press enter for report" it is after the first sound and sounds like your first 5 sounds. So basically the oposite of what yours is doing.

There should be stuff on the top displays to help you know what you are setting when going through the menu.

Ah, well since there are no batteries installed that might explain it! Any thoughts on what to check for the top displays? I'm really hoping I don't have to replace those. They are pretty expensive aren't they?

That would probably explain it then. I guess that is what is happening.

As far as the displays, when I needed some I got them from E-Bay, or you can get LED replacements, but those would cost as much as the machine did for you, LOL.

Well I'm not home right now so I can't just look....but can I swap the top displays with the lower one to see if it's a cable problem or something? Do they just unplug or are they hard wired on?

I think they are NOT interchangable. The tops are numeric only, the bottoms are Alphanumeric :(

I am not home to look at the manual, but I do believe that is the case on this machine.

Well this kinda leads me to think that since both the top ones are out that maybe there is a driver for the numeric displays that has gone bad on me or something else that they share in common.
