Pictures of rare Exidy SPECTAR Cabaret! - TNT Amusements

It seems that Exidy sadly only made two games in cabaret form...Targ is out there alot more than the one year newer Spectar....I am thrilled to own both...here are pictures of the little seen Spectar in my game room! Todd

Nice grab Todd. You should either take some pictures of your current game room line-up and post them here or do it in panoramic-- that would be neat Todd. You got some sweet minis ;)

Thanks for your comments...there is now another thread with other pictures I just posted tonight also. The Spectar and Targ use the same big ball joystick like Venture. When its oiled and working well, its a great joystick! I wish Venture was in a mini cabinet like this...I suppose it would be pretty easy to put the board in with a few changes...if another cabaret cabinet surfaced...but I rarely see Exidy cabarets--only have three Targ cabarets and this is the ONLY Spectar I ever saw in these 32 years! Todd

awesome, mini Targs on both ends of the state.... hello Todd, how have ya been? got some stuff you might want, but no man to send your way. ping me! Ed in Pgh.

Todd... Next question(s)... Did ether of the games use the large ball top w/ micro switches? The reason I ask is because I was offered a NOS (at a $100+ price tag) Venture Style joystick but had MicroSwitches.

I just couldn't buy it for $100+ w/o it being the correct stick.

Also, when I bought my Venture the stick sucked. I cleaned, greased, oiled, etc. but it was very unresponsive. In the end my friend who understands springs and Washers (suspension systems) said the bevel spring washers need to be dry... So, we took it apart, cleaned all grease off and then used a green pad to "scuff it up" a little bit.

Works 10,000 times better now. I'll read the manual again but I was pretty sure they didn't have a maintenance section for the joystick in there.

Too bad Brett couldn't make you a Venture and a Pepper II cabaret cabinet. ;)

Awesome cabinet. I've never seen or heard of either of these games or this cabinet before before getting into this hobby.

While researching online about cabaret cabinets I found this. It a sadly converted cabaret cabinet that was turned into a Mr. Do and then into a MAME machine. I didn't know what it was until you and Ashes1 posted your Exidy cabaret pics. I thought it was a Nintendo cabinet, but the edge of the top panel looked thicker and didn't match.

It is starting to feel like nearly any cabinet that isn't in perfect condition or requires any kind of restore turns into a 60-in-1 or gets MAME'd. It makes it all the more cool to see these rare cabarets in good homes! :)

Great looking mini! It's a shame Exidy never released other minis, I'd love to see Venture or Mousetrap as a cabaret... would all the Mousetrap controls even fit comfortably on a mini control panel?

They would fit fine if they were normal buttons instead of oversized novelty buttons.

Todd, well here is another one for you! Enjoy. :)

I had two of these cabinets/games years ago (both were badly water damaged and one was already converted). :(

I just found an Exidy Targ cabaret cabinet that has been converted. I want to vectorize the cab and cut a new one (or two) on my CNC router. However, mine has been hacked up a bit. It has no back door. I also think that whatever internal part the top three control panel screws attach to has been removed.

Is there any chance you could take a couple of photos of your machine for me? I would love a pic of the back of the machine and a pic of the inside with the CP and bezel removed. They would help me to piece together the rest of the cabinet.

It would be nice to be able to make it new again. Since most of the parts are gone, I am even considering turning it into a Venture cabaret.

Has a PCB issue I need to track down and mine is also missing the back door. Would appreciate if someone could post photos of one so I can replicate it.

Also, there appears to be no power switch except for the interlock in back. Should there be one somewhere?

Well, being that it's just like Targ, I would say no it doesn't have a power switch as my Targ Cabaret has no power switch other than the interlock you mentioned. Unfortunately, I believe mine is missing the back door as well. So I can't help you there.

I'd really like to get my hands on a Spectar cabaret to put next to my Targ. I am sitting on a partially working Spectar boardset (it fired up and played but blew a cap on the sound board).

What's interesting is the balltop on your joystick looks crimson colored. The one on my Targ is black. Hmm...

I'd say "maroon," but yes, it is a dark red. Were the joy shafts painted black? It looks like mine was originally, but now it's rust colored.

Yeah, I believe mine is or was black as well. It's also now a rust color lol. I haven't done much to the game other than get the audio working.
