Well I just finished converting this US CLASSIC GOLF (formerly a ms pac) into a 60 in 1.

This is probably my 10th 60 in1 , but this one is particularly sweet. Mostly because it has an ultimarc switchable from the top 4/8 way joystick.
This is simply the only way to have a 60 in 1 with this joystick.

Still have some finishing touches, but it's mostly done.

oh and a picture of my 2 1/2 year old boy, resting in the middle of his train tracks.

What a beauty man. Very nice job. I like the 8 ball trakball.

Can you please explain the 4/8 joystick a bit more? It somehow switches between a 4 way and 8 way? I guess I was always under the impression that an 8 way would work perfectly for the 4 way games?

And your son can obviously get a little crazy with the crayons...keep him away from the games! j/k - very cute kid.

an 8 way joystick will work fine, some people just don't like the ability to move diagonally in games that weren't designed for it.

Actually, an 8 way joystick sucks for pacman and other 4-way games. When you hit a diagonal on the joystick, it locks up the joystick for just enough time to mess you up in the game. It's hard to explain, but you really need a 4 way joystick.

I have one of these in my MAME cabinet.

Basically, you can switch the restrictor from 4 to 8 way (and back again) by pulling up on the stick and twisting it 45 degrees. Very cool

Ultimarc Magstick Plus

Looks good. Do you find that the Mag Stick is a bit tall for the cp? That would be my only concern.

No, seems like a perfect size. Possibly because I had to use a mounting plate to even get it attached to the control panel, so that makes it 1/4" shorter.

And as for my opinion on 8 way vs 4 way. Some 8 ways are decent for playing pac man and such, the new one from twisted quarter sucks in 8 way mode. Unplayable.

And I love playing scramble, time pilot, 1942(wife) so 8 way is a must.
Anyway, someone put a link up. The joystick is killer. You lift and turn and it moves the joystick from 4 way to 8 way in a matter of seconds.

While an 8 way would work fine, diagonal moves will mess with some games. The bigger bonus to the joystick tronguy used is that the restrictor plate DOES move which gives you an authentic feel to the 4 way (<> shaped restrictor). It made a huge difference in my machine for games like pacman. Love the ability just to pull on the ball, twist, and you've changed modes.

Did you use the arcadeshop panel?
With the blue and black on your machine, their CPO would match well.
Very nice machine, happy looking kid too. ;)

Mine has the same type of joystick (Ultimarc mag stick plus?) you used.
I'm not happy with the CPO match as my machine is still pacman yellow.
Instead of using an adaptor plate, I mounted it inside the bolts, had to grind slight indents into the sides of the joystick plate (very narrow compared to standard).

Here's the link to the Mag-Stik Plus, which is what I'm assuming you guys are referring to. $45 shipped is a bit much for a joystick, but for that easy-switchable 4/8 way there aren't a lot of options.

It is a bit much for a joystick. But not for your machine. I may keep this one. Though if I sell it, I can free up some cash for games I really want.

Oh, and the cpo I put on is all black I got from twistedquarter for like 7 bucks. It's enough material for 3 cpo's. I wanted generic, I don't like the arcadeshop cpo.

And for the record it is a bitch to get the ultimarc stick to work with the arcadeshop "ms pac" multicade control panel.

That's pretty sweet looking! And now I'm putting serious consideration into one of those high-dollar joysticks... A lot of the older 4-way games feel like ass with an 8-way! :( Especially Donkey Kong, for me.

God, I'm so glad I also have a dedicated DK. :D

To get past the high freight cost of importing one for us here in Aus.one of the local collectors designed and sells a 4/8 way restrictor PCB,basically it takes the first input it gets and only outputs this, then with a flick of a switch its back to 8way

Joystick price is worth it, although shipping was like $13 of the total from England.
I wish the arcadeshop CPO was offered with yellow and NO Q-Bert as that isn't on the 60-in-1...
but till I can get something better it will do (like Phet's, which is awesome)

TG - The black CPO looks good, price is awesome. I'll have to follow your lead there on my MAME cab.

Gotta agree on the mounting, it is definitely not standard, this is why.

But some slight grinding makes for a solution.

A little creative mounting makes it secure.
Not going anywhere.
