pics of my new vs red tent, and extra boards, w/questions

got this bad boy home today. It's in decent shape.

My question concerning the extra boards I have is. Can I just plug them in to test them?

Some are obviously missing chips, probably won't waste my time with those, but 2 or 3 look complete.

pics to follow.

Nice score Dylan! And man you got a lot of extra boards!

Well, the boards that have no chips you can test with working chip sets from one of the other boards. Also, it looks like the daughtercard on one of the boards is missing the PPU, though you could test to see if the game is working with another matching PPU or a different PPU (but the color will be off).

I see you already have SMB and Goonies in the machine. So how many boards did you get total and what chipsets/daughtercards were included? That will help to narrow in on what chips and PPUs you're missing and what PPUs could be shared.

Edit:

Pic 1: Daughtercard missing PPU. Which game is it? Any codes on the chips or the card itself?
Pic 2: Side 1 is complete, Side 2 is missing a CPU chip. What do the codes read on the chips? Any labels on the PPUs?
Pic 4: Empty board
Pic 5: Empty board but there are 2 CPU chips

Congrats on the red tent! Dont take my word for it, for i dont own one. But from what I heard you can just slide the boards right in there and you set to go. But again I probably dont know what im saying.

I gotta say all that cpu ppu shit means nothing to me. I have baseball, rbi baseball, tennis, can't remember the rest, he may have said castelvania. Daveninja knows better than I do, lol.

Okay, so the board with the daughtercard is RBI Baseball. You're missing the PPU chip (chip with heat sink on it) that goes in that purple socket. It's the RP2C04-0001 PPU. The same one Baseball uses so you should be good to just swap the PPU between the two games.

The complete board with both sets is most likely Baseball or Tennis or both (you can see the game code on the actual chips. MDS-TE is Tennis and MDS-BA is Baseball) but if you notice next to the PPU on the 2A-8B side, there is a missing CPU chip that you can see is installed on the 1A-6B side. You need this chip in order for the game to work. But you can find 2 extra ones on one of the empty boards that you have.

I know you know this already, but for more info, watch John's video on how Vs. boards work and his list of chip and PPU compatibility on his site: http://johnsarcade.com/nintendo_vs_ppu_info.php It's like a crash course on all this crap. :)

Looks like some have complete games on one side of the board at least. I don't think it would hurt to try em even if one side is empty

ok, I went and looked.
It appears the one with baseball has baseball roms on both sides.
the one with tennis has tennis roms on both sides.

The one with 2 daughter cards has rbi baseball on one side, and the letters GR on the other.

The PPU is the long chip above the little metal thing I am guessing huh? (i.e. pic 2 from post 2.)

Yeah, like I said, the PPU is the chip with the heat sink (metal thing) on it. The other daughter card with GR on it is Vs. Gradius.

If you're missing chips and/or PPUs, the games will not fire up. So it's best to test them complete. Go to John's page to see how the chip sets and boards work and what you need in order for them to be complete. Shoot me a PM if you need any additional help. It can sometimes be a pain to get chip sets to work depending on the condition of the main PCB and/or the chips. Daughtercards are a pain to seat as well if you plan to move them around.

what are the odds of getting excitebike for my new game?

You have Goonies, so you can have Excitebike. Have someone here burn the chips for you, and you can use the PPU from Goonies.

Yes, the red tents seem to be "in demand" as of late...

I read you may have Gradius, and then you mentioned possibly Castlevania... Those are two I'm looking for... dang...

I've got TKO Boxing... (will trade?)

Actually i have been looking at some of the boards daughter boards and a few look identical to each other. I *think* these daughter boards are the same:
Graduis<-->Goonies
Castlevania<-->Top Gun

Technically speaking, if you just change the program chips and PPU, you could have the other games... has anyone tried this out?

Don't think castelvania. Definitely gradius. I am open to trades, but I need to figure out how to test these things and how they work.

I, for the record, have a lead on a red tent for my good buddy Jow, the guy just isn't good at getting back to people.
