Championship Sprint!

This is the one driver I've been wanting since getting into the hobby and I've passed on/missed many opportunities for various reasons. Dropped many quarters in this game as a kid.

Good: Game works, side art is decent on both sides.

Bad: Marquee art is ruined (melted), cab has minor damage on back bottom corners, a couple of chips/holes on the front and one side is coming apart a bit. All fixable.

I'll need to calibrate and clean everything, but I'm stoked to start playing.

EDIT: Pictures added to later post.

My marquee is the same way. :(

Nice pickup eseyo1! I saw that one in the Antioch disco bay area I thought you were going to post the $25 dollar budweiser tapper on craigslist that I saw Friday night? The post was removed on Saturday and it was located in Livermore area?I thought for sure someone from here picked it up for that price but been quiet since Friday???????Anyone????Happy to know you finally got a game you been wanting for a while congrats!

Start collecting those wrenches!

That's great to hear! You had luck on your side for having 2 different Championship Sprint's pop up for sale in a week!

CS and SS were my favorite games to play back in high school. Chicks at the bowling alley I use to play at thought it looked cool when you spun the steering wheel with one hand and stomped on the pedal. Kinda like cruising and checking out chicks but your standing in front of a video game. haahaa lol

If you need a marquee, I have an extra one that isn't in the greatest shape but probably is in better condition than the one I saw in the ad. You can have it if you want it. I just gotta dig it out from storage. Let me know.

I was considering that one too - they were asking $250, get it even cheaper?
The other nice thing about it is I think you can put a Paperboy kit in and use the same machine...
I have the Super Sprint 3 player version - I think its one of the best racing games ever made !!!
Enjoy :)......

Yes you can put a Paper boy kit in it but the control panel harness is not the same as champ sprint. You need to get a Paper boy harness or hack the wiring which is something I don't recommend.

@back2the80s Yeah, I saw that Tapper listing but wasn't interested (no room) and I didn't think it was real. From what I heard, seller never responded to anyone and listing was taken down. I know it's taboo, but I'm not a huge fan of Paperboy. Probably because I suck at it. Haha.

@scubasteve Thanks Steve! I'll probably take you up on that offer. :) Yeah, I missed out on the first one and the seller for this one was nice enough to hold it. He delivered for extra so I paid a bit more than his asking price.

@blkdog Thanks John! Sorry for the delay on the pics. I met the guy at my home and had to leave right away. Itching to get back and mess around with it.

2 pages and still no pics.

I guess it didn't happen.
LOL j/k

It's a new cab day for me also!

Finally took some pictures.

Full shot: You can see the lower left corner where the side is coming loose a bit, but the side art is not bad on both sides. No corner damage on the left side, but both bottom corners damaged on the other side. Marquee art melted, need to replace bulb.

Control panel: Steering wheels work great, dent on the center right below the bottom bezel container.

CPO: Some yellowing (will need to replace), need to install red and blue buttons.

Monitor: WG Med Res. Definitely needs work, but playable.

Manuals: In addition to the original manual, schematics, and WG manual, I got this interesting informational one-sheet. It reads "1st printing" on the top right corner though I'm not sure how many printings were done or if that's even relevant. Still kind of cool.

Awesome Jess- Congrats! I'm still searching for one here. I'm sure you'll have fun with it.

EDIT: Mylstar had a nice marquee back in November. Don't know if he still has it.

Cool! I picked one up myself just a few weeks ago. Unfortunately I overpaid as it still had a lot of work needed but it's a super fun game. My monitor was dim so I did a cap kit and it still looks the same. Wish it wasn't a medium res. Thinking about trying to rejuvenate it but not sure if that will help. Your sideart looks great, mine was covered with black vinyl. My marquee is the same as yours too. :(

Nice find. I love the game. If you ever figure out the trick to get into the billions of points on Championship Sprint, let me know. I know how its done on Paperboy and 720, but never figured it out for Championship Sprint and APB. Here is my System row.

Careful Jess! Atraris can multiply faster than Nintendos. :)

Not too long after my first Atari, most of my garage was filled with them! It is a little more balanced out there now. I had a Paperboy, and I was going to convert it, but traded it away before it happened. I used to have a Super Sprint, and that was definitely the most popular game that I have had out there...ever.

Have fun!

Oooo there is one for sale here locally.....must resist temptation.....:)

Do it! I'll give you a virtual high-five for it. :)

Thanks for the comments guys. After taking a closer look last night, it will take a lot of work to make this game room quality, but I'm just glad it works. After some cleaning, it won't look half bad.

At first, I thought the pedals were broken and then I realized I just needed to re-calibrate them in self-test mode. Man, I love the sounds of this game. Brings be back!

I also realized with the pickup, that every game I have is a different game company:

Nintendo
Atari
Konami
SNK
Capcom
Taito

What's funny is that the other games I'm still looking to pickup in the future are different as well:

Williams (Smash T.V. and/or Robotron 2084)
Sega (Star Wars Trilogy)
Bally/Midway (Ms. Pac-Man and/or Galaga)
Namco (Point Blank)

So if all goes as planned. I'll have 10 games made by 10 companies. Awesome. :D
