I jumped at the sound of free cabinet today and told the guy I would be by to pick it up without asking any questions. The back part of the monitor was smashed to pieces, but everything else in there seemed fine. Is the pcb worth anything? Its super clean, but I have no idea how to check if it works. I also found a small board wrapped in bubble wrap in the bottom that says "PacMan Filter Pc." What is this exactly? I probably shouldn't have picked this thing up without knowing anything about it, but its hard to pass up free :). Ill be sure to post some pics of it in the morning.

A lot of the older games from Midway were packaged with filter boards. They are not essential pieces of equipment from the feedback I got from various reputable sources. If the board is the same size edge connector and is the same width, (generally), as the main PCB but much shorter in length then it can stay in the bottom of the cabinet and will be just as usefull.

As for the knowing if it works or not...

Unplug all power to the monitor so it will not turn on and blow something in the cabinet. Verify on your switching power supply, or power board if it is original, your voltages. Check the fuses then power up the cabinet. You should be able to coin up the cabinet and start a game even with the monitor off. If you are as lucky as you sound you should hear the game playing even though you have no screen.

I'm Jealous post some pics!

I checked the fuses and fired it up. I hear the speaker kick on, but only when this white switch is held down. There isn't any coin mechs in it so is there a way to trigger it still? Thanks a ton for the info!

Edit: I found out what why the white switch needs to be held down. Im stupid haha. When I hold down the red (reset?) button I can here the comp noise! Thats good right?!

Haha I have no clue. I just picked it up without asking questions. I can get more pictures if you think it would help identify it?

Look on the back of the game and see the mental tag screwed into the game(it should be there) and look for the company.
It might help if you take a picture of it.

This is the only tag I could find. The machine is missing the back door if that's where its located.

Kinda has the shape of a Taito Trimline, but the coin door opening looks different.

You don't need to hold it down. Pull the switch and it will stay on.

FInd somebody who fixes 8liners by you and get a good used 13" monitor. Install, and enjoy that pac cabaret! Thhere were alot of wacky chinese cabs out there in the 80s but this one looks pretty cool imho. With some tlc you could have something cool and unique there.

As far as getting it to coin up goes hook your meter up to ground at the pcb connector then poke around the coin door wires untill you find one with 5vdc on it. Temporarily "tap" it to ground and see if you cna get it to coin up (should make a pac glup sound) then hit start and see how well you can play blind. I dont remember but the red button in there may also add credits so you could try the same thing that way.

Awesome! Thanks so much for all the help and info. If I can get this thing to play blind, Im going to try and get this thing back up and running. Should be a good way to learn how this all works.

I think theres a couple of collectors here in the Springfield area, you might see if they have anything laying around. I have a 13" G07 I'm not using, but I'm a few hours from Springfield, though I'm half tempted to drive down that way and pick up another game.

Pretty cool. Since it's kind of a weird cabinet and the control panel fits pretty well, I"d leave it as is, just get it fixed.

BTW you might want to make sure that the monitor is unplugged if it's glass tube is broken. That could be really dangerous if it tries to fire up with the tube compromised.
