Picked up exidy max-a-flex system. Probably home owned.

Just got this one home. Guy said his mom bought it for him and his brothers when he was a kid. Game has 3500 credits on it. its pretty clean. has all 4 marquees and carts.

Currently not working properly. It has some weird issue going on where display acts like its getting no sync. Occasionally you can see the ready prompt from the 600xl. Maybe a problem with the ntsc to rgb board?

here are some pics..

I will try to get it working for cax.. I sort of got it for a friend, but if he has no room for it, it might need to go to a new home..

Wow, thats nice. Almost never see these and someone else posted a complete one they found this month. Crazy.

I really don't think that many are turning up. More like they are getting passed around.. I think the other one posted recently by parrothead was purchased from another collector(avidgeek).

I think tim sold his when he was living up north maybe a year or so ago. Not sure who got it, but I can ask..

Other than currently not working, the plexi is cracked on the boulder dash marquee. I have not taken a close look at it, but I think its sort of adhesive translite situation. So as long as that backing is not torn, the plexi part can be replaced.

Sweet, welcome to the Max-A-Flex club. I hope you can get it working all the way. You will love it when you do, at least if you like the games included. I have been playing Boulder Dash about as much as anything else I have at this point. Ours appear to be in similar condition, too.

It's kind of strange as there are a few things on the side art/bezel that don't seem to have to do with any of the four games that were made for it. I am wondering if there were other games they were going to do for it but never got done. I see a Maze and a guy driving and a frog, a couple people with rifles? Does anyone know if other games were going to be made for it or ported over from the 600XL? You can clearly see the Paint Brush from Bristles, the Boulders and Robot dude from BD, the Astro Chase ship and the Kangaroo from FF. What are the others?

That's awesome! I've never seen one of those before. So, it's just a standard Atari 600xl computer in there? Neat! That means you can play any of the common 8-bit Atari games on it, right?

I used to *love* Boulder Dash on the Atari computer. I had it on disk, but it's probably the same game on that machine.

I really don't know much about them. Back in the late 80's, an operator had one that was water damaged and offered it to me, but I did not want it so, I just pulled the boulderdash cart out of it and let him toss the rest.

yes, it would be a cool way to play all those atari 8bit computer carts....

It looks likes a regular 600xl with the start select and option button moved to the control panel. There are 2 wires going into the are where the keyboard was that I think grab the video output right off the pcb.

I will try to paly with it this evening..

Here is a video I made showing the inside of mine :) I don't think you can play other Atari computer games in it, but I am going to try. There has been some debate about this going on in the AtariAge forums and I believe they have determined that it can be hacked to do it, but not as it was from the factory.

And, yes, I have cleaned my CPO since taking this movie and it shined up like new :)

Flip and Flop...Wow I had forgotten about that game. I don't remember the name, but as soon as I saw the video I remembered playing that game quite a bit on my Atari 800XL. Bristles and Boulder Dash were also great games.

What a cool machine.

Just thought I would update.. Finally got the 2 exidys together. I fixed the audio in the 1st one, so its working 100%.. The 2nd ones computer, NTSC pcb, and monitor are working.

Pretty sure the problem is in the custom exidy board. Its not powering the ntsc to rgb board and the timer is not working..

If you happen to find one of these boards, let me know I am interested..
