Thank you very much Tim! :beerchug:

There are a ton more pictures and information here:

The monitor was tested working but the PCB has issues with the watch dog going nuts... anybody have a cheapish working Tempest PCB they want to sell me before I spend countless hours and hair pulling sessions on trying to bring it back around? I didn't think so. ;)

Thanks again Tim... and the wifey and kiddos thank you too!

Yep, it was there. I took it out yesterday to clean all the tape residue off the monitor. Not sure if I'm going to re-use that one or make a new one.

The wifey just asked when I'm going to fix the PCB because she wants to play. God love 'er. :D

Had one. Sold it. Regret it every day !

I can relate...

I happened upon a $100 Tempest 8-10 years ago and after repairing it we installed a Clay Cowgill multi-Tempest kit. Then I sold it 5 or 6 years ago and I've had the wifey ask "Why did you get rid of the Tempest?" on and off since. This past weekend going to Videotopia put her and my 9 year old son over the top though. :)

Congrats! This was the A-#1 game I was after when I started collecting. I overpaid for mine and had to have it shipped from 400 miles away, but it was worth it. This game, in this cabinet started my whole video game addiction. I will NEVER sell it. :D

Congrats again! Get that baby working!

We are now past the watch dog but still nothing on the screen. Seems like I'm playing blind except the sounds are completely distorted. Self-test also sounds "different" so I need to read up a bit to see where I am now. :D

At least my player one and two buttons blink at me so I know free play works... but I can't help but think they are laughing at me just ever so slightly... really... I think I can actually hear it... I can...

/Jeff runs away from the computer, test bench, and Tempest and grabs the kids to throw them in the pool before he goes MAD!!! :ridinghorse:

Glad it's not resetting anymore Jeff. Test the input and output of the DACs and the MC1495s. Those are the big culprits for loss of video assuming the monitor is fine.

Finished swimming with the kids and got right back to the Tempest. ;)

I've got a solid +11v at the X-out test point. I'm going to try swapping in a good TL082CP(NTE858M) at D/E12 tomorrow to see if anything changes.

I've been reading up on previous people's trouble-shooting attempts via Google Groups and I've also been following along with the Tempest Detailed Theory of Operation document.

Seems like it's a pretty decent trouble-shooting guide. If I turn the brightness up a bit I get a horizontal line that doesn't change position when I change X-Cent.

We'll see. If not, it looks like I'll work backwards from there and check the DAC and MC1495.

Thanks for the suggestions! :beerchug:

Swapped in a new TL082CP and now I get voltage swings between ~2v and ~-2v. (rough guestimate, I admit I didn't watch it very long) ;)

I still have a vertical line on the screen and I still can't adjust it left or right so the next thing in line is the MC1495 at C12. Getting closer! :)

I had the chance to get a Tempest mini and regret it. I probably would have one rather than my CT. I believe those had the full size monitors too.

Jeff, are you sure that the monitor is working correctly? I'm surprised you're getting the horizontal (vertical) line when you turn up the brightness. Is your spot killer LED on?

Yep, it is. I only get the vertical line if I turn up the brightness a bit to override the spot killer. I do it very slightly just so I can barely see the line because I don't want to burn my screen anymore.

The seller, Tim, has offered to loan me a known working PCB just to make sure nothing happened to the monitor in transit. I'll hit him up if I need to.

I have a cap-kit and a bunch of other parts coming from Bob Roberts tomorrow so I should know more hopefully tomorrow night.

Thanks,
Jeff
