I've had a pretty rotten week so picking up this beauty made things a tad better today...
Since I wasn't able to make Cax..among other bad shit that happened...here's a few pictures...
Story on this is it was bought new by guys grandfather..and sat in basement for long time..this thing is really clean...control panel..bezel..marquee are all nearly mint..and cab has just a few scrapes from being moved around...sideart fully intact on both sides..just some cleaning...about 6,000 plays on coin counter which is still hooked up...and it works perfect...rare to find a color vector working as well as this without having been restored.

Damn! You lucky dog! Very cool and rare game.

You should have all of that artwork scanned.

So how's the gameplay? Kinda sounds like the reverse of Star Castle, where you are the one in the middle.

How's the sounds?

Gameplay is kind of cool... its actually very similar to Star Castle in some ways...of course this is color vector and Star Castle is B/W but the premise is similar only you are essentially in the middle and bugs and bombs try to penetrate your shield ...you have to kill so many bugs per round..there is bonus rounds after a few cleared levels...only played a few games..but its fun....Sounds are unique..and it has a little intermission when you clear a level..kind of like pacman..I've had my eyes open for one for a long time and this one came up a while back..finally had a day to go pick it up..about 2 hour drive away...and it was nice day so I went in morning...
I need to get a portable scanner so I can have some of this art scanned..

Ah man! LUCKY! I love that game! Use to love playing that as a kid. I've always had an eye out for one. And to come across a privately owned one. WOW!

Damn fine looking game right there. Probably less than 1000 out there from what I have been reading about cinematronics lately. I just picked up 2 Solar Quest games that were sitting in a wet warehouse. I would kill for a rare cine game in that condition.

Thats a cinematronics color vector monitor in there, right?

The monitor is a 19K 6101WG which is factory....it even has the matching serial numbers which Cinematronics often hand wrote on back plates and boardsets...
There is a color interface board that takes output of the cpu board and sends, X Y coordinate info to color monitor.

The game also had the rare original manual which is harder to find than the game itself...:D And you definately need it for the schematics when and if your going to troubleshoot since there are custom jumpers on cpu from factory etc...

Yeah, solar quest has 14 or so custom jumpers on the back of the ccpu board. Both of mine are still non-working, and I plan on sending them off to wysiwyg2 for repair.

Having the original manual helps out a lot, but if you do want a .pdf of it there are many manuals here including boxing bugs

Now go play a few games while it is still working!!
